THE PREMIER LEAGUE ROARS BACK

A new season is here, and the bar has never been higher.
Liverpool return as Premier League champions, fresh off a dominant campaign that saw them lift the trophy for a record-equalling 20th time. Under Arne Slot, they’ve set the standard and every club will be out to catch them. As we gear up for the opening match of the season, the champions’ first test will be no piece of cake. Just another bite of the cherry.

The new season kicks off on Friday, 15 August, with Friday Night Football, pitting the champions against Andoni Iraloa’s ever-dangerous Bournemouth. They might not have been able to secure a place in Europe in their last campaign, but a ninth-place finish – with a positive twelve goal difference – in such a competitive mid-table is no mean feat. However, the champions can walk onto the pitch with the knowledge that they won both fixtures against Bournemouth last season, and haven’t dropped a point against them since the 2022/23 season. But with all teams back on a level playing field, this is sure to be a thrilling opener to the season.

AMSTERDAM NARCOS

‌The Godfather – Part 1 of 3

From the 1970s to the early 2000s, the Dutch city of Amsterdam transformed from a liberal countercultural haven into the drug capital of Europe.

What began as a government tolerating the hash trade soon opened the floodgates to organised crime. Leaving the police playing catch-up as ecstasy and cocaine smuggling followed. Amsterdam fuelled a pipeline of drugs and criminality through British ports, and right across Europe.

As the Dutch underworld exploded and the drug trade spiralled out of control, law enforcement resorted to desperate measures in a bid to catch the gangsters. Told through the personal testimony of drug users, manufacturers, and traffickers. And the detectives who tried to outsmart them, Amsterdam Narcos charts how underground rebellion escalated into an increasingly lethal, multi-billion-pound industry.

RICHARD RAMIREZ: THE NIGHT STALKER TAPES

Part 1 of 2

Through exclusive audio interviews with Richard Ramirez on San Quentin’s Death Row, as well as with his family members and his wife. Most of which have never been heard before. This documentary explores how a perfect storm of twisted boyhood influences and drug addiction enabled a troubled young man from El Paso, Texas, to become one of the most infamous serial killers in history.

The series also features rare footage of his bride on their 1996 wedding eve. Video interviews with his victims’ family members, former friends and female admirers who have never told their stories in a documentary format. Together, these elements offer an unsettling and thought-provoking look into the mind of a brutal serial killer through those who knew him best. This series holds a mirror up to reflect the culture of fandom in the 1980s. This turned a maniacal killer into a serial killer rock star for legions of fans who became obsessed with him.

MRS ROBINSON

Mrs Robinson tells Mary’s story, in her own words, for the very first time. Illuminating battles for justice and equality for over half a century. On the streets, in the courts, at the ballot box, and in backroom corridors of power. A reforming constitutional lawyer and senator in her early career, Mary Robinson detonated an electoral earthquake by winning the Irish Presidential vote in 1990. Later, as a crusading UN High Commissioner, she built a lasting legacy. Fearlessly challenging perpetrators of human rights abuses all over the world. To this day, she exerts power and leadership as the Chair of The Elders, an independent group of global leaders (founded by Nelson Mandela) that works for peace, justice, and human rights.
