The Thursday Murder Club is a film directed by Chris Columbus and based on the book of the same name by Richard Osman. This is the latest to be produced through the partnership between Netflix and Amblin Entertainment. It stars Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, Celia Imrie, David Tennant, Naomi Ackie, Tom Ellis, Jonathan Pryce, Daniel Mays, and Richard E. Grant. The film releases on August 28 on Netflix.
STORY

The Thursday Murder Club follows four retirees who spend their time solving cold case murders as part of their club activities. Their life takes an exciting turn when an unexplained death occurs in their town. This is Netflix’s own Only Murders in the Building, but in a film format. There are four novels with a fifth one forthcoming, so there is a clear potential for sequels. And I am all here for it.
Undoubtedly, something is comforting in watching a group of older people solving murder cases. They bring the fun to the whodunits. Elizabeth’s club uses the ageist expectations of those who would usually underestimate them against them. It helps them get exactly what they need. It’s a joy to watch this group. They lighten the mood while also getting things done. Each member brings their expertise on the subject matter. Elizabeth (Helen Mirren) is a chic woman who knows how to interrogate people. Ron (Pierce Brosnan) is the agitator who is always there to make a speech when needed. Ibrahim (Ben Kingsley) is the deep thinker, while Joyce (Celia Imrie) has excellent skills in assessing situations. It is a group of characters who work well together with great chemistry. Whether it’s for a covert operation or fooling a cop into getting what they want, they know how to do things.
This film delivers a crowd-pleasing adventure with whip-smart humour. It’s the kind of film you’ll be happy to watch with the family or a group of friends on a Saturday night. It’s a whodunit, so you need exciting murder cases too. And this one delivers intriguing mysteries. You’ll watch with excitement as the characters piece together the clues.
CAST

Moreover, The Thursday Murder Club gathers an all-star cast of icons and makes excellent use of their talent. Helen Mirren brings her confidence and presence. Pierce Brosnan brings his boldness and strong voice. Ben Kingsley brings his sophisticated attitude, while Celia Imrie brings her sense of excitement. The on-screen chemistry between the characters works wonderfully. Chris Columbus really picked the right group of actors to play these four retirees. Daniel Mays also has spot-on comic delivery as the detective. Finally, it’s always a pleasure to see Richard E. Grant on screen; he has a presence and charm that immediately attracts attention, and this is exactly what you want for the role he plays.
