Our First Look at Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 Arrives From the MonsterVerse

Look out, MonsterVerse fans, because Apple has shared our first look at the second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters streaming on February 27.

Apple TV has finally revealed our first look at Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2. The long-awaited season promises to build upon the brilliance of a stellar first season that unleashed a treasure trove of titans, the fury of Godzilla, and a ferocious King Kong. But in the gripping season finale, Lee Shaw sacrificed himself to ensure the survival of his team, leaving fans pondering his fate. But now, our first look has revealed that the hero, played by screen legend Kurt Russell, has survived. Moreover, his quest to preserve the Hollow Earth continues bringing his team into the firing line of some of the most ferocious titans ever seen on Earth. Take a look at the teaser below.

SYNOPSIS

Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco, and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows. The dramatic saga – spanning three generations – reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.

Season two will pick up with the fate of Monarch — and the world — hanging in the balance. The dramatic saga reveals buried secrets that reunite our heroes (and villains) on Kong’s Skull Island, and a new, mysterious village where a mythical Titan rises from the sea. The ripple effects of the past make waves in the present day, blurring the bonds between family, friend and foe — all with the threat of a titan event on the horizon.

REVIEW

After our first look at the series, I was blown away by its epic scale and production value. In my initial thoughts, I said, “Fear not, MonsterVerse fans, because MONARCH: LEGACY OF MONSTERS is a revelation. It boasts standout performances from its cast, a compelling storyline, and adds some much-needed gravitas to the MonsterVerse as a whole. Although the series utilizes some of the franchise’s biggest stars, this story is about the incredible individuals responsible for creating Monarch as a whole. An additional focus is the fabric of the entity itself. What we are rewarded with is a gloriously compelling series that is rich in story, light on disappointment, and colossal in monster action. And it all starts on familiar territory.” Read my review here.

RELEASE

What a phenomenal first look. Kurt Russell was one of the jewels in the first season’s crown, so it is fantastic to see the veteran actor bringing his wealth of talent back for another outing. Where his storyline will take him in season 2 remains to be seen. But with Godzilla rampaging across the globe, the facility on Skull Island is now under scrutiny from an angry King Kong. Therefore, Season 2 looks set to become unmissable – and that is a tantalising prospect. The extent of Kong and Godzilla’s involvement is still uncertain. However, if the showrunners stick to the formula from the first season, the Titans are likely to appear briefly throughout the series, culminating in a spectacular cameo to conclude the season with a bang.

Plus, with the series leading into the events of Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, fans will be watching with glee in the hope to learn more about the colossal sequel. Exciting times ahead!

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters returns to Apple TV on February 27 with the first episode, followed by one episode every Friday until May 1, 2026.
