Lionsgate releases the first teaser trailer for The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping.

Exactly one year ahead of its release in cinemas, Lionsgate has unveiled an explosive first teaser trailer for The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping. The film stars Joseph Zada, Whitney Peak, McKenna Grace, Jesse Plemons, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Maya Hawke, Lili Taylor, Ben Wang, Ralph Fiennes, Elle Fanning, Glenn Close, Billy Porter, and Kieran Culkin.

The Lionsgate film is based on Suzanne Collins’s bestselling novel. It was published on March 18 and received wide acclaim. The book sold 1.5 million copies in its first week of release in the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Notably, the 1.2 million copies sold in its first week in the U.S. are twice the first-week sales of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. These sales are also three times those of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay. The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping releases on November 20, 2026. Along with the trailer, a new poster has also been unveiled.

STORY

The story takes place 40 years after the prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. This prequel focuses on a young Coriolanus Snow, 24 years before the events of the original tale, as led by Katniss Everdeen. The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is scheduled for release in cinemas on November 20, 2026. This new prequel tells the events of the second Quarter Quell (the fiftieth Hunger Games). In this event, the fan-favourite character Haymitch Abernathy is the lead.

DIRECTION

Francis Lawrence, who directed all the films in the franchise except the first, returns to the director’s chair. Billy Ray, who co-wrote the screenplay for the first film, is also making a comeback. The producers are Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson of Color Force, with Cameron MacConomy serving as an executive producer.
