Just twenty-four hours after dropping the suitably awesome first poster, James Gunn has released the first trailer for DC’s Supergirl. After her impromptu debut in her cousin’s big-screen outing, where she crash-lands into the Fortress of Solitude, fans have been excited to see what the future holds for Kara Zor-El. With its plot inspired by the Woman of Tomorrow comic line and the debut of Jason Momoa’s Lobo, the film has all the hallmarks of an instant classic. So, what can we expect from Craig Gillespie’s DC blockbuster? It’s time to find out, as the new trailer has dropped from Metropolis. Hit play and check it out below.

TRUTH. JUSTICE. WHATEVER!

What a phenomenal first trailer. The adventure takes us from this world to another, where Kara finds herself in over her head and fighting insurmountable odds. But when you’re the cousin of Superman, you’re never truly alone, and Kara’s enemies get more than they bargained for when Krypto arrives with a vengeance. But with Lobo hot on her trail and an army of thugs to fight, Kara might just need a little more help… if she can pull herself away from her penchant for alcoholic beverages, of course!

SYNOPSIS

When an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice.

CAST & CREW

The film stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El / Supergirl, alongside Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, David Krumholtz as  Zor-El, Supergirl’s father, and Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze, Supergirl’s mother. Former Aquaman star Jason Momoa will portray Lobo, an alien mercenary and bounty hunter from the planet Czarnia. However, after his sensational debut in Superman, perhaps the most significant addition to the cast is Kara’s beloved dog Krypto, who will be getting into all sorts of mischief.

James Gunn Shares First Look At Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow

GIRL OF TOMORROW

While I found her drunken introduction tonally jarring, I am intrigued to see this new take on the character unfold. Gunn appears to be setting his stall out early, giving these characters demons to overcome before they emerge as the true heroes we know and love, and that is an enticing prospect. Milly Alcock appears to be fitting into the new DC Universe like a glove, and her performance looks impressive. So, let’s hope the trailer is just a taster of the fantastic journey that awaits us when the film hits cinema screens in June.

RELEASE

It has now been confirmed that Ramin Djawadi will compose the film’s score. Djawadi famously composed the soundtracks for Iron Man, Game of Thrones, Clash of the Titans, and Pacific Rim, so he is more than up to the task of bringing the sound of DC’s next blockbuster to life.

Look out, because Craig Gillespie’s Supergirl is swooping into cinemas in June 2026. Are you looking forward to the film? Let us know in the comments below.
