Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 Review

Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 delivers an entertaining third episode. It has the right balance of action scenes, character development, and exposition.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians is back with its second season. After a fantastic double-episode premiere, Percy and his friends are now off to their new quest. The third episode premieres today on Disney +.

PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS – (Disney/David Bukach) CHARLIE BUSHNELL

STORY

The first two episodes were about laying the ground for what comes this season. This episode is the beginning of the quest for Percy, Tyson, Annabeth, and Clarisse. Indeed, there are two main storylines here – on one side, Percy, Tyson, and Annabeth on the cruise ship, and on the other side, Clarisse, alone on the same quest. Seeing Clarisse getting more screen time is obviously a good thing. She’s an interesting character who is more complex than she appears. She has a lot to prove to herself.

The new trio, Percy Jackson, Tyson, and Annabeth, is a team that works. The three share some memorable moments. Tyson brings some humour without trying to; it just feels natural. Thus, it lightens the mood in some scenes. Tyson is someone with a big heart who would do anything to protect the people he loves. This makes him a really compelling character to go on this quest.

It may be the beginning of the quest, but the story significantly moves forward in this one. Some reveals are clearly going to impact the characters and their choices for the rest of the season. This episode has everything: incredible action scenes, character development, and exposition. There’s a good balance between all of these moments. This series knows how to handle the pace.

PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS – (Disney)DANIEL DIEMER

CAST

Though Dior Goodjohn didn’t have a lot of screen time last season, she delivered a strong performance as Clarisse, the daughter of Ares. In season 2, she has a more prominent role. She really gets to shine as the character. Former wrestler Adam Copeland is also back as Ares. He’s just outstanding in this role. When we think of wrestlers turned actors, we always talk about The Rock, John Cena, and Dave Bautista, but Copeland should be included in the conversation, too. He’s pretty energetic as Ares. You can feel the arrogance and anger in his character through his line delivery and the way he stands in the scene. Seeing him play the character again is an absolute joy.

VERDICT

Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 delivers an entertaining third episode. It has the right balance of action scenes, character development, and exposition.
