Premiering globally in October, Apple TV reveals the first-look images at Sam Hargrave’s action-adventure, Matchbox The Movie.
At the Apple TV Press Day, Apple TV unveiled the first look images for director Sam Hargrave’s upcoming action-adventure, “Matchbox The Movie.” The film’s stars, John Cena, Jessica Biel, Sam Richardson, Teyonah Parris and Arturo Castro, announced that “Matchbox The Movie” will premiere globally on Apple TV. The release will be on Friday, October 9, 2026.
THE PREMISE
Inspired by the iconic Mattel toys, “Matchbox The Movie” is an action-packed, globetrotting adventure about a group of friends since childhood who have had their lives upended. Their lives change when undercover CIA agent Sean (John Cena), their long-absent former leader, returns to their small town. As a result, he unwittingly gets them embroiled in a frantic international pursuit. Specifically, they become involved in an attempt to save the world.
Alongside Cena, Biel, Richardson, Parris, and Castro, the ensemble cast also includes Corey Stoll. In addition, it also features Bill Camp, Danai Gurira, Golshifteh Farahani, and more.

“Matchbox The Movie,” an Apple Original Film from Skydance Media and Mattel Films, has Sam Hargrave at the helm as both director and executive producer, with the screenplay crafted by David Coggeshall. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger produce for Skydance, alongside Robbie Brenner and Ynon Kreiz through Mattel Films, as well as Jules Daly. Patrick Newall and Elizabeth Bassin serve as executive producers.
Matchbox The Movie premieres globally on Apple TV on October 9th.
