Before creating blockbuster hits Yellowstone, Tulsa King and Landman, Taylor Sheridan wrote the highly acclaimed crime thriller HELL OR HIGH WATER. It stars Chris Pine, Ben Foster and Jeff Bridges. It makes its 4K UHD worldwide debut on May 18th. This edition features a brand new restoration.
Directed by David Mackenzie (Fuze), and starring Chris Pine (Star Trek) and Ben Foster (The Messenger) as desperate brothers on a bank robbing spree, with Jeff Bridges (True Grit) as a Texas Ranger on their trail, HELL OR HIGH WATER is a superb neo-Western crime thriller that Variety describes as “a thrillingly good movie” and CineVue says is a “brilliantly executed, sharply written genre gem”.
A CRITICAL SMASH
A critical success that received nominations for four Academy Awards and three BAFTAs. The film features stunning cinematography by Giles Nuttgens. This cinematography perfectly captures the vast and forbidding Texas landscape. The score, created by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis, adds a fantastically moody atmosphere. In addition, this film is an early example of Sheridan’s deep exploration of fractured masculine ideals, brought to the forefront with powerful storytelling. “Hell or High Water” showcases the underrated talents of Chris Pine and Ben Foster. Meanwhile, Jeff Bridges delivers yet another consistently brilliant performance. The film has earned its place among dust-blown crime classics. It sits alongside “No Country for Old Men” and Sheridan’s own “Sicario.”
THE PREMISE
Texas brothers – Toby (Chris Pine) and Tanner (Ben Foster) come together after years divided to rob branches of the bank threatening to foreclose on their family land. Vengeance seems to be theirs, until they find themselves on the radar of Texas Ranger, Marcus (Jeff Bridges), looking for one last grand pursuit on the eve of his retirement. As the brothers plot a final bank heist to complete their scheme, and with the Rangers on their heels, a showdown looms at the crossroads where the values of the Old and New West murderously collide.
