Dogwoof have announced that the thrilling documentary film from John Dower (BAFTA Award-winning Lockerbie, Thriller in Manila, My Scientology Movie), The Balloonists, is coming to cinemas. The film follows explorer Bertrand Piccard and British flying instructor Brian Jones. Together, they take on the world’s top aeronauts and billionaires in a high-stakes race. In this race, they compete to become the first to fly nonstop around the world in a balloon. The film premiered to great acclaim at the Toronto International Film Festival. It will be released in UK and Irish cinemas on 22 May. Moreover, the documentary has been acclaimed, with notices like:

THE PREMISE
In the winter of 1999, Piccard, from a family of record-breaking explorers, and Jones embarked on an attempt to complete the last great aviation challenge of the 20th century. Their goal was to circumnavigate the globe nonstop in a hot-air balloon. Meanwhile, rival teams are lifting off across the world, and the race is on to be the first to write their names in the history books. Working together, they must overcome extreme weather conditions. Also, they must survive potentially fatal technical failures. In addition, they must endure mounting mental and physical exhaustion if they are to succeed.
