HBO Max has finally released the first trailer for DC Studios’ Lanterns, featuring Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre.
Look out, DC fans, because HBO Max has finally released the first trailer for DC Studios’ Lanterns. The Green Lantern series is finally arriving on the newly minted UK branch of the streamer this August. But with the platform just weeks away from launch, HBO has dropped our first look at the show, which is guaranteed to have you signing up!
The DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television series, starring Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, and Kelly Macdonald, looks like another home run. The show features Hal Jordan and John Stewart as they navigate the Green Lantern training process. But pretty soon, the duo find themselves investigating a murder in the American heartland. But before we dive any deeper, let’s check out the trailer below.
SYNOPSIS
The series follows new recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.
CAST & CREW
HBO in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. The LANTERNS pilot is co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, who are co-creators for the series. Mundy serves as showrunner. The first two episodes are directed by James Hawes, with Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel and Alik Sakharov also tapped to direct. The series is executive produced by Mundy, Lindelof, James Gunn, Peter Safran, King, Ron Schmidt, and Hawes. Based on the DC comic characters from “Green Lantern.”

RELEASE
What an exciting first look. The Green Lantern Corps has been sidelined in the DC Universe for too long, and we welcome its return to James Gunn’s revamped DCU. Starting with Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner, the Green Lantern is back on the game board, and that is an exciting prospect. Sadly, fans looking to introduce their children to the Green Lantern will be disappointed by the show’s tone and profanity. So perhaps the wait for a legitimate Green Lantern series continues. Plus, with the classic Lantern costume revealed in the trailer coming under fire from die-hard fans, the show is already facing an uphill battle to win over its detractors.
However, with a glorious cast, led by Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler, and featuring Ulrich Thomsen as the Green Lantern villain Sinestro, fans have plenty to look forward to.
Lanterns will reunite us with the Green Lantern Corps…sometime in August. HBO Max launches in the UK and Ireland from March 26.
