The Official Teaser Trailer For Zach Cregger's Resident Evil Shuffles In From Raccoon City

Austin Abrams, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Paul Walter Hauser will be facing down the undead of Raccoon City in the first teaser for Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil.

Are you prepared to take a trip to Raccoon City this September? You better be. The dead have risen yet again. After the games, seven movies, and a live-action TV series, we are about to experience Resident Evil all over again. The new film is directed by Zach Cregger. It is the second reboot of the cinematic franchise after Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City. The film draws inspiration from the early games in the franchise. However, it presents an original story that separates itself from previous narratives. It features Austin Abrams, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Paul Walter Hauser in leading roles. The plot follows Bryan, a medical courier, who faces a sudden outbreak while making a delivery. He must fight for survival. Get ready for an adrenaline rush—the teaser trailer for the film has just dropped from Raccoon City!

THE PREMISE

From the mind of visionary filmmaker Zach Cregger (Weapons, Barbarian) comes a thrilling — and terrifying — reinvention of the Resident Evil franchise. In an all-new story, Resident Evil follows Bryan (Austin Abrams), a medical courier who unwittingly finds himself in an action-packed, non-stop race for survival as one fateful, horrifying night collapses around him in chaos.

Zach Cregger and Shay Hatten wrote the new film. Robert Kulzer, Zach Cregger, Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, Carter Swan, and Asad Qizilbash produced it. Oliver Berben, Victor Hadida, Richard Wright, and Robert Bernacci executive produce the movie. Columbia Pictures distributes the film through Sony Pictures Releasing.

THOUGHTS

The teaser does exactly what it needs to. By showing us little, it has us interested in what the film contains. It looks to be a creepy, scary adaptation of the source material, one that expands the landscape while also keeping us firmly in the sandbox of the games. And, as a fan of the games themselves, I’m all for it. The cinematic franchise needs an infusion of new blood (pun intended), and this could be the shot in the arm it needs. I do expect to see Leon and Claire make a cameo appearance near the end of proceedings, but if they don’t, who cares? Creating an original tale set in the Resident Evil universe could lead to opportunities that we haven’t considered. And that can only be a good thing.
