American author Colleen Hoover’s novels are a hot property right now in Hollywood. After the adaptations of It Ends With Us, Regretting You, and Reminders Of Him have hit the box offices around the world, it is time for her best-selling novel, Verity, to get its moment to shine. But this is something totally and tonally different from those three movies. For one, Verity is a psychological erotic thriller that twists and turns throughout. And second, this isn’t a PG-13 rated movie; this is firmly in R-rated territory.
The film follows Lowen Ashleigh, who takes on the job of ghostwriting novels for Jeremy Crawford’s bestselling author wife, Verity. After an accident leaves Verity unable to finish her work, Lowen steps in to help complete the unfinished manuscript. Lowen uncovers Verity’s disturbing truths while residing at the Crawfords’ home to work. The cast is led by Oscar-winner Anne Hathaway as Verity, with Dakota Johnson as Lowen and Josh Hartnett as Jeremy. The film also features Ismael Cruz Cordova and Brady Wagner. The film opens in cinemas on October 2nd, making it an early creepy movie for Halloween month.
THE PREMISE
Adapted from Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel, this seductive, psychological thriller follows renowned author Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway) and Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson), a struggling writer who relocates to the remote Crawford estate to ghostwrite for Verity. After Lowen uncovers what appears to be Verity’s chilling autobiographical notes, she wrestles with the disturbing and twisted confessions about Verity’s husband, Jeremy (Josh Hartnett), and finds it hard to separate fiction from reality, manipulation from attraction, and opportunity from obsession.
BEHIND THE CAMERAS
The film is directed by Michael Showalter from a screenplay by Nick Antosca. Showalter and Antosca also produce alongside Alex Hedlund, Stacey Sher, Jordanna Mollick, Anne Hathaway, and Colleen Hoover. Dakota Johnson, Kerry Orent, and Lauren Levine are the executive producers, while Amazon MGM Studios distributes the film in the United States and Canada, with Sony Pictures Releasing distributing worldwide.
Verity opens in cinemas on October 2nd. There is no light where we’re going.
