The Social Reckoning Is Almost Upon Us With The First Teaser Trailer

The companion movie to 2010s The Social Network, The Social Reckoning, is almost upon us. The first teaser trailer has just been released.

Back in 2010, The Social Network was released to critical acclaim and a slew of award nominations. The film starred Jesse Eisenberg as Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Andrew Garfield played co-founder Eduardo Saverin. The movie portrayed the founding of the social networking website Facebook. Directed by David Fincher, writer Aaron Sorkin expressed enthusiasm for a sequel, stating he would gladly collaborate on the project if Fincher was on board. Nothing came of it for many years. However, one day, it did.

The sequel, The Social Reckoning, hits screens on October 9th. This time, the film is based on the 2021 Facebook leak by whistleblower Frances Haugen. Aaron Sorkin wrote, co-produced, and directed the film. It features a talented cast, including Mikey Madison, Jeremy Allen White, Wunmi Mosaku, Betty Gilpin, Billy Magnussen, Bill Burr, and Jeremy Strong, who steps in for Jesse Eisenberg as Zuckerberg. Notably, neither Zuckerberg nor any other Facebook staff participated in the project. The first teaser trailer for the film has just been released.

THE PREMISE

A companion piece to the hit film The Social Network, Sorkin’s original screenplay is based on the events that gave rise to the Wall Street Journal’s shocking exposé The Facebook Files. The film follows the true story of Frances Haugen (Madison), a young Facebook engineer, who teams up with Jeff Horwitz (White), a reporter from the Wall Street Journal. Together, they embark on a perilous journey that exposes the social network’s most guarded secrets.

Todd Black, Peter Rice, Aaron Sorkin, and Stuart Besser produced the film. The film’s executive producers are Lauren Lohman, Roger McNamee, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Broderick Johnson, and Andrew A. Kosove. Columbia Pictures, Alcon Entertainment, The Gotham Group, and Escape Artists are the production companies behind the film, while Sony Pictures Releasing handles the distribution.

The Social Reckoning will open in cinemas on October 9th.
