Look out, UK fans, because Amazon MGM Studios has officially confirmed that Project Hail Mary will debut exclusively on MGM+. The internationally acclaimed film, which follows science teacher Ryland Grace as he works to save everything on Earth from extinction, joins MGM+’s expanding lineup of exclusive series and blockbuster movie franchises on June 18th.
That’s right, MGM+, not Prime Video, is the exclusive streaming home of this year’s runaway blockbuster. If you want to watch Project Hail Mary from the comfort of your sofa, you’ll need an MGM+ subscription because it isn’t coming to Prime Video anytime soon. Fortunately, the service is an affordable add-on through Prime Video and already boasts an impressive library of films, original series, and exclusive content. But with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s sensational blockbuster now set to land later this month, the service has become unmissable.

This is a savvy move from Amazon MGM Studios. Positioning MGM+ as the exclusive home for its biggest blockbusters gives audiences a clear reason to subscribe through Prime Video’s MGM+ channel. It also helps establish MGM+ as the studio’s go-to streaming destination, paving the way for more theatrical hits to debut there in the future. After all, with Masters of the Universe struggling at the box office despite strong word-of-mouth, the studio may be tempted to bring the film to MGM+ sooner rather than later to boost its reach and attract new viewers.
