MUBI Announces The 25th Anniversary 4K Restoration Of Amores Perros

Mubi announces the 25th anniversary 4K restoration of Amores Perros, streaming this July exclusively. Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s landmark debut feature returns.

MUBI, the global film distributor, streaming service, and production company, is pleased to announce the exclusive streaming release of the new 4K restoration of Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s landmark debut feature, Amores Perros. The film arrives on the platform from 10 July 2026 to mark the film’s 25th anniversary. Furthermore, the restoration is currently playing in theaters nationwide in the US.

THE ARTBOOK

In addition, an Amores Perros art book was published by MACK last fall. The book brings together stills, on-set photography, behind-the-scenes materials, and cuttings from its critical reception. As a result, it weaves a thrilling narrative of the film’s immense production and influence. The film’s tripartite structure unfolds through carefully selected stills, paired with Iñárritu’s handwritten notes that delve into the subtexts, driving forces, and characterizations of each scene. Original storyboards by Fernando Llanos enhance the narrative, creating a dynamic interplay. Iñárritu’s original tale, filled with drama, brutality, suspense, and pathos, comes alive in the book’s collaged design, reflecting its fragmentary yet propulsive essence.

Completed by a new text by Iñárritu himself, as well as contributions by renowned directors Denis Villeneuve and Walter Salles, and award-winning novelists Jorge Volpi and Wendy Guerra, this art book is unique. It also includes film critic Elvis Mitchell and storyboard artist Fernando Llanos. Therefore, Amores Perros offers a rich insight into the practice and process of one of the world’s leading filmmakers.

ONE OF THE MOST CELEBRATED AND INFLUENTIAL FILMS OF OUR TIME

One of the most celebrated and influential films of the twenty-first century, Amores Perros announced the arrival of a new generation of filmmaking talent. In addition, it launched the international careers of director Alejandro G. Iñárritu, actor Gael García Bernal, and cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto. Twenty-five years after its premiere, the film remains a defining work of contemporary cinema. It is bold, visceral, and formally groundbreaking, with an influence that continues to be felt across film and television today.

THE PREMISE

Set against the backdrop of Mexico City, Amores Perros unfolds through three interconnected stories brought together by a devastating car accident. A love triangle between brothers, a man who gives up everything for a beautiful model, and a hitman with a past he’s about to unearth. The circle never truly closes: pain, too, can be a path to hope.

Through its layered exploration of love, loss, violence, and fate, Iñárritu crafts an uncompromising portrait of a city, and of the fragile ties that connect seemingly separate lives.

A quarter of a century after its debut, Amores Perros remains as urgent, heartbreaking, and thought-provoking as ever: a timeless work whose impact on world cinema continues to resonate with audiences old and new.

Amores Perros will stream exclusively on MUBI on July 10th.
