Demon Music Group is proud to present the original 1981 BBC Radio full-cast dramatization of JRR Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings in its original 26-episode format. In addition, it comes in beautiful limited edition vinyl LP and CD box sets. These are going to be a must-have item for Tolkienites this Christmas.
The BBC radio drama, which chronicles Frodo Baggins’ epic quest in Middle-earth, has garnered admiration from The Lord of the Rings filmmaker Peter Jackson. It features acting legends like Ian Holm, known for his roles in Alien, The Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit, and Chariots of Fire, who plays Frodo. Also, it features Michael Hordern (Barry Lyndon, Gandhi, Paddington) as Gandalf, John Le Mesurier (Dad’s Army) as Bilbo, Bill Nighy (Love Actually) as Sam, and Robert Stephens (Romeo and Juliet) as Aragorn. You will also hear Gerard Murphy (Waterworld, Batman Begins), Peter Vaughan (Game of Thrones), Simon Cadell (Watership Down), and Michael Graham Cox (The Stone Tape).

Presented in its original 26-episode format for the very first time on vinyl and CD, The Lord of the Rings is the definitive BBC radio dramatization of Tolkien’s masterpiece series. ScreenRant praises the adaptation as “a painstakingly crafted interpretation of the source material featuring a phenomenal cast.” The acclaimed full-cast production from 1981, dramatized by Brian Sibley and Michael Bakewell, comprises 14 LPs and includes complete cast listings and credits for each episode. In addition, it includes a standalone disc of the series’ celebrated soundtrack by the renowned composer Stephen Oliver (Blondel, Timon of Athens, Lady Jane).
Now at last all 26 thrilling installments can be heard as originally broadcast, newly-mastered in superb stereo sound with every tense cliffhanger – and every stirring theme music reprise – intact.
