This weekend at the UK box office, Odysseus manages to find his way home to box office gold, bringing in a great haul for director Christopher Nolan. Read on to find out how it compares to Oppenheimer, and explore the other films in the top ten.
(1) The Odyssey
The Odyssey has arrived, and it powered its way to an opening of £12,566,300, driven by IMAX formats. It’s the only new film in the top ten, and it beat the inflation-unadjusted total of director Christopher Nolan’s previous film, Oppenheimer, which came in at £10,891,486. Christopher Nolan’s brand has powered this movie to great success.
(2) Toy Story 5
Toy Story 5 continues to perform very well, bringing in £1,657,469 in its fifth weekend. Its overall total is £45,308,648, meaning that the film will likely gross over £50 million by the time all is said and done.
(3) Moana (live-action)
Moana dropped to number three, bringing in £1,523,562. This is only a 47% drop from the previous weekend, which is a respectable hold. The film will need to maintain this momentum to salvage any kind of success from its disappointing opening.
(4) Minions & Monsters
Minions & Monsters dropped one spot to number four at the UK box office, bringing in £1,173,552. It’s only a 32% drop from the previous weekend, a softer decline this time.
(5) Evil Dead Burn
Evil Dead Burn could only pull in a total of £303,562 in its second weekend, dropping 67% from its opening. This is a harsh drop, but not uncommon for horror films.
(6) The Invite
In its third weekend of release, The Invite pulled in £238,174 with a respectable 45% drop from the previous weekend, showing that it is holding well. Its overall total is £2,472,178.
(7) Obsession
Now in its tenth weekend in the UK top ten, Obsession brings in £186,183. Despite never being at number one, Obsession has proved to have more staying power at the box office than some blockbusters, and it’s likely to be in the top ten again next weekend.
(8) Supergirl
Supergirl’s total continues to plummet, bringing in £92,544 for a 65% drop from the previous weekend. There is no salvaging this film’s box office at this point; it’s been nothing short of a disaster.
(9) Disclosure Day
Disclosure Day posts a total of £68,673 in its sixth weekend of release, with an overall total of £12,644,988. This is also the fourth Universal film in the top ten, showing what a stellar year the studio is having.
(10) Jackass: Best and Last
Defying the odds, Jackass: Best and Last manages to stay in the top ten for a fourth weekend, bringing in £42,826. It is quite likely, though, that this will be its last weekend in the top ten, especially if it drops by 65% again.
Next weekend sees no major film release in cinemas, though small openers include Animal Farm, Chickenhare and the Secret of the Groundhog and the horror Pinocchio Unstrung.
