Ryan Gosling has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe to bring Ghost Rider back to the big screen, with Levy set to direct.
After years of rumors, speculation, and endless fan casting, Ryan Gosling has officially joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios brought Hall H to its feet during its San Diego Comic-Con panel when Kevin Feige finally confirmed that a Ghost Rider movie is roaring into development.
The biggest surprise, however, was still to come. Feige unveiled Shawn Levy as the film’s director before revealing Gosling as the MCU’s new Spirit of Vengeance, sending the crowd into a frenzy. As if that wasn’t enough, Jonathan Tropper, who penned Star Wars: Starfighter, has also signed on to write the screenplay, setting the stage for Johnny Blaze’s long-awaited return to the big screen. To get fans fired up for Ghost Rider, Gosling and Levy took to the stage, where Levy revealed that the pair had hammered out the details for the project while working together on their upcoming Star Wars adventure.
“Wow,” Gosling said after the reveal. “Is this really happening? As you know, this is a character I’ve wanted to play for a very long time.”

Ryan Gosling has spent years campaigning to take up the flaming mantle, making no secret of his desire to bring Ghost Rider back for a new generation. Until now, however, Marvel and the actor could never get the wheels turning. Thankfully, those demons appear to have been exorcised, with Marvel’s Spirit of Vengeance finally revving towards a 2028 release.
The big question now is: which Ghost Rider will Ryan Gosling actually play? Johnny Blaze feels like the obvious choice, but Marvel Studios has never been afraid to take an unexpected turn. Could the MCU introduce Danny Ketch instead, giving audiences a fresh take on the Spirit of Vengeance?

That approach would also leave the door wide open for Nicolas Cage to reprise his iconic Johnny Blaze in a mentor role—a prospect that would undoubtedly delight longtime fans. Whatever Marvel has planned, the possibilities are incredibly exciting. And with Shawn Levy and Gosling reuniting behind the wheel, Ghost Rider looks poised to make one hell of a comeback as Marvel’s blazing Spirit of Vengeance.
