This weekend at the UK box office, it was a battle of the dogs at the cinema, with both Coyote Vs. Acme and The Dog Stars fighting it out for top dog, with Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie still hanging about. Spider-Man continues to hold onto the number one spot, but The Odyssey is closing the gap on it. Read on to find out the final numbers at the UK box office!
(1) Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Once again in the number one spot, Spider-Man: Brand New Day (BND) swung in with £2,787,943 for its fifth weekend of release, a drop of only 23% from the previous weekend. Its total gross to date is now close to the £100 million mark, currently standing at £92,816,098, making it the eighth highest-grossing movie at the UK box office of all time, unadjusted for inflation. It’s highly likely, though, that it will continue to climb the list.
(2) The Odyssey
In the number two spot again, The Odyssey comes in with £2,404,782 in its seventh weekend, dropping 13% from its previous weekend. The film’s overall total is £79,540,966, making it the 13th highest-grossing film at the UK box office of all time, and it’s very likely The Odyssey will crack the top ten unadjusted for inflation. If The Odyssey drops 13% again next weekend, and BND drops 23%, the two films’ totals would be incredibly close, with The Odyssey giving BND a run for its money on who gets to keep the top spot.
(3) Insidious: Out of the Further
In the number three spot is Insidious: Out of the Further with £1,345,763, dropping 39% in its second weekend. This is a solid hold, showing that audience interest hasn’t waned much for the horror film.
(4) Coyote Vs. Acme
Coyote Vs. Acme has finally arrived in cinemas, after its long and arduous journey to the big screen. It reported an opening of £1,077,962, which isn’t huge, but is a sign that at least some people got to check it out and enjoy it, which is much better than the film being locked away in a Warner Bros. Discovery vault for the rest of time as a tax write-off.
(5) The Dog Stars
Ridley Scott’s new film, The Dog Stars, barely misses out on being top dog of the canine films in cinemas this weekend, opening just below Coyote Vs. Acme with a total of £1,048,212.
(6) The End of Oak Street
The End of Oak Street brought in £659,457 in its third weekend, dropping 29%. Its overall total is £6,043,663, with the possibility of the film making £10 million by the end of its box office run.
(7) Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (25th Anniversary)
To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Warner Bros. Discovery re-released the film in UK cinemas, pulling in a respectable £522,704 and showing the love fans still have for the film that kicked off the book adaptations. No wonder the studio is remaking the franchise, with audience love still high.
(8) Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie
Not wanting to be left out in the dogs at the box office, Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie comes in at number eight with £508,130, just barely eking it out over One Night Only. It grew 7% over the previous weekend.
(9) One Night Only
One Night Only will likely spend only one weekend in the box office top ten, with a meager opening of £501,799. Universal has been on a roll at the box office throughout the year, but One Night Only won’t be added to its list of successes.
(10) Toy Story 5
Spending its last weekend in the top ten, Toy Story 5 brought in a total of £478,917 in its eleventh weekend. This is a great achievement and shows the film’s longevity, even if it has been overshadowed by BND and The Odyssey dominating the box office in August.
Next weekend, The Death of Robin Hood and Leviticus open in UK cinemas.
