It’s that time of the week again, Trek fans! We’re just days away from another brand-new episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and after last week’s soap-opera shenanigans, Starfleet has a brand-new set of orders for the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise!
This week’s episode is titled “Orders of Magnitude,” and it looks set to deliver a healthy dose of vintage Star Trek adventure. While Pike and several senior officers are away on an away mission, Starfleet Command sends the Enterprise on a new alien pursuit. There’s just one problem: with Pike out of the picture, someone needs to take command of the Federation flagship.
Enter James T. Kirk!
With Kirk taking the captain’s chair, the mission is in more than capable hands. But when Starfleet’s orders begin to stretch far beyond the original mandate, Kirk faces a dangerous dilemma: can he complete the mission without violating the Prime Directive? Then again, when James T. Kirk is in command, who would bet against him?

In the PRIME Universe of Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek: The ORIGINAL Series in the episode “The Menagerie”, Commodore Mendez asks William Shatner’s Kirk: “Have you ever met Chris Pike?” Kirk:”We met ONCE when he was promoted to Fleet Captain, I took over the Enterprise from him, Spock served with him”. YES, in the PRIME Universe of TOS, William Shatner’s Kirk and Jeffrey Hunter’s Pike only met ONCE and that would have been when Fleet Captain Pike relinquished command of the Enterprise to Kirk. Kirk also reveals that Leonard Nimoy’s Spock was the ONLY one of his officers to serve with Pike, NOT Scotty, Uhura, Chapel, M’Benga or Rahda, just SPOCK. As I understand it, Kurtzman has cast Thomas Jane as McCoy for the final season, so just as he’s ignored important characters from “The Cage”, Peter Duryea’s Lieutenant Jose Tyler and Laurel Goodwin’s Yeoman Mia Colt, he for the most part also ignored Phillip Boyce who should STILL be Pike’s Chief Medical Officer, Booker Bradshaw’s Joseph M’Benga would have only been 19 in 2259 if you synchronise M’Benga’s age with Bradshaw’s who was born in 1940, so he was 27 when he debuted in “A Private Little War”. If Kurtzman ignored these characters then he is likely to shoehorn McCoy in as CMO when Wesley’s Kirk takes command bypassing the character of Paul Fixx’s Mark Piper who was Kirk’s first CMO in “Where No Man Has Gone Before”. McCoy, Scotty, Uhura, Chapel, M’Benga and Rahda shouldn’t have been anywhere NEAR the Enterprise even if this is an ALTERNATE Universe as in the PRIME one, KIRK was their first CMO.
