Get Ready To Re-Experience Arrietty As Studio Ghibli’s Iconic Film Returns In IMAX

Get ready to experience a small world on the biggest screen yet. From the globally celebrated Studio Ghibli, ARRIETTY comes to IMAX for the very first time in the UK and Ireland. The film is getting a fresh 4K remaster. It will be released on Wednesday, October 14th, 2026. Additionally, it will also hit theaters everywhere starting Friday, October 16th.
Arrietty will hit IMAX and cinemas in the original Japanese version with English subtitles. You’ll also find it released with the 2011 English dub produced in the UK. The dub features Tom Holland’s first feature film performance. The cast features British and Irish icons. These include Saoirse Ronan, Tom Holland, Olivia Colman, Geraldine McEwan, and Mark Strong.
The film is a gorgeous, adventure-filled adaptation of Mary Norton’s “The Borrowers,” one of the most beloved children’s books of all time, directed by Academy Award nominee Hiromasa Yonebayashi and Keiko Niwa, with a screenplay by Hayao Miyazaki, who also worked on project planning.
THE PREMISE
In a secret world hidden beneath the floorboards, tiny people called Borrowers live out of sight of humans. But when brave Arrietty goes out to gather supplies, she is discovered by Sho, a human boy, and they begin a friendship that blossoms into a heartwarming adventure.
GKIDS CELEBRATION OF STUDIO GHIBLI’S WORKS
The release continues GKIDS’ celebration of Studio Ghibli’s timeless works, with Yoshifumi Kondo’s Whisper of the Heart releasing in cinemas from Friday 18th September, and IMAX previews from Wednesday 16th September. Like GKIDS and IMAX’s partnership in North America, fans can look forward to additional IMAX releases of new Studio Ghibli 4K Remasters, plus the re-release of the entire library across all home video platforms.
The release follows the recent announcement that GKIDS has acquired, through Goodfellas, the UK and Ireland distribution rights to the 23-film library of Japan’s renowned Studio Ghibli, one of the most acclaimed and influential animation studios in the world. In the UK and Ireland, GKIDS collaborates closely with Anime Limited, its longtime partner and distributor based in Glasgow. Recently, Toho Global, GKIDS’ parent company, acquired Anime Limited.
Arrietty hits IMAX screens on October 14th and 15th, with 4K screenings nationwide on October 16th, 17th, and 18th.
