This weekend saw five new releases enter the Top 10, the most in quite a while. And one of them even knocked Spider-Man: Brand New Day from its top spot, shaking up the established order. Read on to find out which are the biggest new movies at the UK box office!
(1) Practical Magic 2
The newcomer that dethroned Spider-Man from its dominance at the UK box office, Practical Magic 2 opened to £2,798,771, according to Warner Bros. This sequel to the 1998 movie managed to attract an audience and held its own at the box office.
(2) Oasis: Don’t Look Back In Anger
Oasis: Don’t Look Back In Anger opened right behind Practical Magic 2 with £2,656,988 for the documentary film. While it’s not likely to have the box-office staying power of Michael, its opening showed that the UK audience will turn out for a film about the English band.
(3) Pressure
Pressure is the latest World War 2 movie to hit cinemas, this time focusing on the planning stages of D-Day, and the importance of predicting the British weather for the success of the invasion. It pulled in a total of £2,058,089 in its opening weekend.
(4) The Odyssey
Leap-frogging over Spider-Man, The Odyssey pulled in a total of £889,732 in its ninth weekend of release, down 42% from the previous weekend. Audiences still hunger for the Greek-inspired epic, with its overall total standing at £84,545,889.
(5) Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Taking a sharp tumble to the number five spot, Spider-Man: Brand New Day pulled in £839,515 in its seventh weekend of release. Its overall total is £98,117,216, on the cusp of crossing the £100 million mark.
(6) Fall 2
A sequel to the 2022 film Fall, Fall 2 is a survival film that stars Harriet Slater as they try to endure harsh conditions on a mountain in Thailand. Considering the first film had a straight-to-digital release in the UK, £479,264 isn’t a terrible number to open to.
(7) Insidious: Out of The Further
Insidious: Out of the Further took home a total of £457,581 in its fourth weekend at the UK box office, a 40% drop from the previous weekend. The film’s overall total stands at £7,356,537.
(8) Runner
The final new release at the UK box office this weekend is Runner, an action-comedy starring Alan Ritchson and Owen Wilson, but unfortunately the only thing they’re running from is profitability. The film only pulled in a total of £382,666 in its opening weekend, not signaling a great start for its box office potential.
(9) Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (45th Anniversary 4K Re-Issue)
Indiana Jones returned to the box office, with Raiders of the Lost Ark (45th Anniversary 4K re-issue) opening to £241,150. It’s a small opening, but since this is the film that launched the franchise, it is nothing to sniff at.
(10) Coyote Vs. Acme
Hanging on to the number ten spot for a final weekend, Coyote Vs. Acme pulled in £139,298 in its third weekend. Old Wiley is hanging on in there at the box office, proving that he and the Looney Tunes still have it in them to convince fans to see them.
Next weekend sees the opening of the latest Resident Evil adaptation.
