John Madden was an icon in the world of the NFL. He coached the Oakland Raiders from 1969 to 1978 and led them to their first Super Bowl title in Super Bowl XI. After retiring from coaching, he was known as a color commentator for NFL telecasts until 2009. Younger fans will probably know him for his incredible American football sports video game, Madden NFL. His name has gone down in history as one of the world’s best-loved coaches and commentators. Sadly, Madden died in 2021 at the age of 85.
Now, though, his story is about to be told in a new movie coming to Prime Video this November. The film, Madden, is directed by Academy Award nominee David O. Russell. It features Nicolas Cage as John Madden, Christian Bale as Al Davis, Kathryn Hahn, John Mulaney, Sienna Miller, and Shane Gillis. The trailer for the film, due to hit Prime Video on November 18th, has run into the endzone and has scored a touchdown. Take a look below.
THE PREMISE
Inspired by the life of a beloved American icon, MADDEN chronicles John Madden’s incredible journey alongside best friend and true original Al Davis. They shared a Super Bowl-winning partnership with the Raiders. In addition, the film follows his rise to becoming football’s most recognizable voice. It also shows his work in building the worldwide Madden NFL video game. MADDEN is the celebration of a brilliant mind whose once-in-a-century spirit and personality touched many. His partnership with his daring wife Virginia and lifelong friendships shaped his life. Furthermore, his infectious love of people and football transcended the world of sports.
