This weekend saw a blockbuster enter the Top 10, a new video game adaptation of Resident Evil. It claimed the top spot, with some new openers falling behind it. Read on to find out what films people are watching at the UK box office!
(1) Resident Evil
Resident Evil returns to cinemas with a fresh adaptation from Zach Cregger, best known for the horror hits Weapons and Barbarian. It opened to £4,211,819, a massive jump from the previous film in the franchise, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, which opened to £ 253,200. While this appalling Raccoon City opening may be attributed to the pandemic, the previous Resident Evil adaptation, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, opened to £463,691 in 2017.
So it looks like the wind is finally in this franchise’s sails, showing Sony’s decision to hire Cregger paid off. Speaking of Cregger, the £4,211,819 opening of Resident Evil is nearly double the opening of Weapons in 2025, which was £2,818,535. This has been a success for him too.
(2) Practical Magic 2
Practical Magic 2 dropped 46% in its second weekend, bringing in £1,502,114. 46% is a respectable hold, especially as most blockbuster films regularly lose 50% or more of their business in their second weekend. Fans are still returning to the film even after its initial release.
(3) Shaun The Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom
Shaun the Sheep returns to the big screen after being absent since 2019, with a humorous take on horror movies in Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom. This comedy brought in £1,494,260 in its opening weekend, a total comparable to the 2019 release Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon, which opened to £1,305,511, unadjusted for inflation.
(4) Pressure
Pressure kept up on the UK box office, which dropped a solid 48% in its second weekend to a total of £1,076,106. StudioCanal has had a good weekend, with Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom in the number three spot followed by Pressure in the number four spot.
(5) The Odyssey
Eking out the number five spot, The Odyssey brought in £587,430 in its tenth weekend of release. The film is doing extremely well to stay this high for 10 weekends, though limited box office competition has helped. That’s not to take away from The Odyssey’s incredible achievement, as its overall total stood at £85,841,424 by the end of Sunday.
(6) Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Spider-Man: Brand New Day (BND) brought in £571,325 in its eighth weekend, just a hair below The Odyssey’s total for this weekend. The two films are dropping by similar amounts, The Odyssey by 34% and BND by 32%, meaning that next weekend will likely be very close again. BND’s overall UK total as of the end of Sunday is £99,017,400, which means it will now have either passed £100 million or be extremely close to it.
(7) Oasis: Don’t Look Back In Anger
Oasis: Don’t Look Back In Anger dropped a harsh 82% in its second weekend, with a total of only £487,748. This is bound to be disappointing for Disney, which isn’t seeing the return it likely hoped for from this music documentary, especially given Oasis’ popularity in the UK.
(8) Bad Apples
Bad Apples is a film following an overworked primary school teacher who accidentally locks her worst student in her home, and keeps him there as her classroom begins to flourish in his absence. The film took in £486,690 at the box office in its opening weekend, which, for a small film like this, isn’t a terrible start. Watch our interview with the film’s director, Jonatan Etzler, here.
(9) Transformers: The Movie 40th Anniversary
The return of Transformers: The Movie to cinemas for its 40th anniversary brought in £432,893. This amount is likely pushed by Peter Cullen’s recent passing, as people see the film to pay their respects to his best-known role as Optimus Prime.
(10) Insidious: Out of the Further
Insidious: Out of the Further rounds out the top ten, with a total of £194,667, which trails the number nine spot by quite a bit. It’s now in its fifth weekend of release, and its final weekend in the top ten.
Next weekend sees the return of Avengers: Endgame to cinemas as Avengers: Endgame Encore, featuring coveted footage that bridges it to Avengers: Doomsday.
