Apple TV announces the title and release date for the first-ever authorized Fleetwood Mac documentary, Fleetwood Mac: The Chain, directed by Frank Marshall.
When you hear the title, ‘The Chain’ by Fleetwood Mac, many of us immediately think of the theme tune to the Formula One racing on the BBC from years ago. That piece of music, which I heard over the years, brought the legendary band to my attention. My mother has a particular love for their tune ‘Albatross’, which has made the band a firm favorite of mine. Now it is time to learn their true story from the legendary band themselves.
For the first time ever, Fleetwood Mac is telling their story in their own words in Apple Original Films’ fully authorized documentary “Fleetwood Mac: The Chain,”. The film will make its global debut on Apple TV on Friday, January 29, 2027. Directed by five-time Academy Award nominee and Irving G. Thalberg Award winner Frank Marshall and produced by award-winning The Kennedy/Marshall Company and White Horse Pictures, the documentary offers fans a definitive, unprecedented look at Fleetwood Mac’s story. Moreover, it brings together the voices, memories, and perspectives of Grammy Award-winning Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham, and Stevie Nicks.
THE TITLE
The film’s title reflects the profound significance of Fleetwood Mac’s hit “The Chain,”, which embodies a family forged by a shared passion. Notably, it is the only song on their album “Rumors” credited to all five members. The song captures the complicated yet enduring bond at the heart of Fleetwood Mac. Its iconic lyrics became a powerful motif for the respect and connection that persisted through the band’s tumultuous rise to superstardom. Additionally, the film’s premiere coincides with the 50th anniversary of the release of the Grammy Award-winning “Rumors.”
FLEETWOOD MAC
Following their fortuitous meeting in 1974, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks reflect on their uncompromising 50-plus-year history. This history spans from their record-breaking recordings and tours — including never-before-seen footage and exclusive new interviews — through to today. Furthermore, the film will explore how the band’s trials and tribulations, personal resilience, and musical dexterity combined to create enduring masterpieces. It will take fans through the highs and lows of their brilliant career. The documentary will illuminate the exceptional ingredients each member brought to the band’s uncommon alchemy — a musical union that sold more than 220 million records worldwide. Moreover, the documentary will reveal what allowed this combination of artists to create singular musical work again and again. Finally, it will show what drew them back together and held them there when every possible pressure, both outside and inside the band, threatened to blow them apart.
