Rediscover your childhood with the youngest hero in the DC Universe…

With the crowds riding a tidal wave of pure euphoria following the release of the new Aquaman trailer, Warner Bros ensured that its prominence was unchallenged at San Diego Comic-Con by unveiling the trailer for the second upcoming DC Universe feature Shazam.

With the MCU not taking part in this year’s event, the DC Universe was free to take on all comers and reveal its full slate of upcoming blockbusters to an excited crowd who were eager to get a first look at the Zachary Levi fronted superhero flick.

Synopsis:

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still, a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong).

Incorporated into the same universe as the Justice League, Shazam looks to be an intriguing prospect. Harnessing the innocence of Tom Hanks’ all-time classic BIG and combining it with a superhero narrative is a brave undertaking and could be one of the most unique comic books features ever attempted. The property is definitely one of the lightest DC movies to date, banishing the underwhelming environment established in the less than impressive Snyder movies.

Either way, the DC Universe is eager to banish the disappointment of Justice League and forge ahead with its lighter, fresher approach. Will it work? Only time will tell.

Shazam is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on April 5, 2019.
