Jason Reitman's Ghostbusters III Already Has a Teaser Trailer!

Just hours after Sony announced news of a legitimate Ghostbusters sequel…the teaser trailer has arrived!

Sony is knocking this one out of the park.

Completely taking everyone by surprise earlier today, the entertainment giant has announced plans for an all-new Ghostbusters sequel which is expected to arrive in summer 2020. Not only is this sequel a direct follow up to the immensely popular original movies, but Jason Reitman son of original director Ivan has signed on to serve as both writer and director. If that wasn’t enough to have you screaming “I ain’t afraid of no ghost” in triumph, Ivan Reitman himself is returning to the franchise to serve as producer.

Who Ya Gonna Call? Ghostbusters Resurected

Reitman has stated that the film will be the next chapter of the original 1980s franchise and will have nothing to do with the derided 2016 all female attempted reboot. The film will be set in the present day and will follow the trajectory of the original film.

It’s too soon to know the plotline of the new film or if any of the original cast will return in their respective roles (Harold Ramis sadly died in 2014) in any capacity, whether they will pass the torch to a new generation or if they pop up in crowd-pleasing cameos as they did in the 2016 reboot.

However, just hours after breaking the news and taking the world by storm, a teaser trailer for the movie has debuted online which offers us a glimpse of what we can expect next summer. The trailer features a pleasingly spooky and dilapidated barn with proton sparks emerging from its weathered threshold. As we near the entrance we are greeted by another series of sparks from an old proton pack before a silhouette emerges from the darkness. The silhouette is shrouded by a tarp, but a gust of wind removes just enough to reveal the unmistakable form of Ecto-1, the Ghostbusters trusty converted ambulance.

Reitman shot the teaser hoping to raise questions: Whose lonely property is this? What became of Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler, Winston Zeddemore, and Peter Venkman? Why is an iconic vehicle once used to save the world from demonic takeover gathering dust in the middle of nowhere?

Do you believe in UFOs, astral projections, mental telepathy, ESP, clairvoyance, spirit photography, telekinetic movement, full-trance mediums, the Loch Ness Monster and the theory of Atlantis? They’re ready to believe you!

Ghostbusters III is set to arrive next summer.
