The Batman | Who Will Be the Next Dark Knight?

Following Ben Affleck’s departure, who in Hollywood has the charisma to slip into the cowl of the Caped Crusader?

It’s official. Ben Affleck is no longer donning the alias of The Dark Knight after news dropped yesterday that he will not be returning for the official Batman standalone film set to arrive in the summer of 2021. While this may come as a shock to some Ben Affleck has been on the fence about playing this character for a few years now. Back and forth his allegiance to DC Comics has swayed and his disliking of the character and the franchise has been visible.

In Justice Leaguehis performance was unenthusiastic, a startling contrast to his near-perfect portrayal of the character in Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. So, with him gone from the DC Universe just three months after Henry Cavill’s rumoured departure from the franchise, it’s clear that The DC Universe is ready for a reboot. And, if Aquaman is anything to go by, that reboot is going to be AMAZING!

Who Will Be the Next Batman?

While the news of Ben Affleck’s departure is unfortunate the question remains; who will replace him as the sixth! man, to portray Batman in a film? There are many candidates but to take on such an iconic role is very difficult because, well, it’s an iconic character. Remember when it was announced that Ben Affleck would be the new Bruce Wayne and the internet exploded with mixed reviews? It’s honestly hard as an actor to take on such a beloved and scrutinized role but you can believe there are many men ready to take on that responsibility.

To be honest, I’m not an authority on actors in Hollywood but I do know a couple of good candidates who could maybe take up the mantle. Jon Hamm, of course, is one person who I think could do a great job as The Dark Knight. He’s middle-aged, he’s charming, he’s got the dark hair, and with some training, he could easily don the cowl and convince fans that he can handle the pressure of being the new Batman.

There are those who think Jake Gyllenhaal could don the cape but with him playing Mysterio in this year’s upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home it’s pretty unlikely that we’ll see him playing Batman as well.

I’ve done a bit of research and Ben Barnes is someone who could possibly fill the shoes as Batman in an exciting way. While I haven’t seen anything that he has acted in just from word of mouth it sounds like he could be a perfect candidate for the role.

Then there are some who want to flip the script and cast Michael B. Jordan in the role as Batman which could be fantastic if done right. There has never been a black Batman but with DC Comics introducing the first ever African-American Batman in a recent comic we could definitely see something that groundbreaking in the next couple of years.

For me, personally, I would love to see Christian Bale return to the role. I mean, he still looks great! Who wouldn’t love seeing one of the greatest, if not the greatest, actors to portray The Dark Knight place his stamp on The DC Universe? Of course, this will most likely not happen but there’s always hope, right?

Honestly, we can speculate all day who could or should be the next Batman but we’ll never know until the official announcement. Batman is one of my favorite–if not my favorite–superheroes of all time and I can only hope that whoever is behind the mask does a great job.
