Aquaman Surfaces On Blu-Ray

Atlantis is calling you home. The biggest DC movie of all time arrives on Blu-Ray this March…

The highly anticipated Blu-Ray release of Warner Bros’ DC Universe box office smash ‘Aquaman’ has finally been given a street date in the USA. The film will hit DVD, Blu-Ray, 3D Blu-Ray and Blu-Ray 4K on March 26th 2019 with the film hitting Digital release on March 5th.

The standard Blu-Ray will be a 2 Disc set (1 BD-50,1 DVD) with a digital copy code. The 3D Blu-Ray will be a single Disc with a digital copy code as well as a 2 Disc set (1 3D Blu-Ray, 1 Standard Blu-Ray) The 4K Blu-Ray will be a 2 Disc release (1 BD-66, 1 BD-50) with a digital copy code.

Target and Best Buy will again have exclusive covers for their releases of the film and both will have their exclusive Steelbook versions of the Disc. The Discs will also come with a sneak peek at Warners’ upcoming DC Universe film, Shazam.

Aquaman is a superhero film based on the DC Comics character created by Paul Norris and Mort Weisinger. The film is directed by the acclaimed James Wan from a screenplay by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Will Beall, from a story by Geoff Johns, Will Beall and James Wan. The film is produced by Peter Safran and Rob Cowan.

The film’s soundtrack score is composed by Rupert Gregson-Williams who has previously composed for the DC Universe with his score for Wonder Woman.

The film stars Jason Momoa as the main character Arthur Curry/Aquaman supported by Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Patrick Wilson as King Orm Marius, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as David Kane/ Black Manta, Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry and Nicole Kidman As Queen Atlanna.

The film’s budget was $160-$200 million and has to this date grossed $1.109 Billion worldwide. It was the fifth highest grossing film of 2018 and is currently the 22nd highest grossing film of all time as well as becoming the highest grossing DC Comic Book character film, surpassing The Dark Knight Rises. The film gained a 55% rating on Metacritic and 65% on Rotten Tomatoes with an average rating of 6/10. Audiences gave the film an enthusiastic thumbs up with 94% of viewers liking the film.

A sequel is currently in development at Warner Bros, Jason Momoa himself has pitched an idea for the beginning of the sequel which has been well received and the studio is courting Director James Wan to return for the film.

In addition, a horror-tinged spin-off from the film entitled ‘The Trench’ focusing on the amphibious monsters Aquaman and Mera face in a sequence in the original film is in development at the moment. James Wan will produce the film from a screenplay by Noah Garner and Aiden Fitzgerald.
