James Gunn eyes Elba to star alongside Margot Robbie in Suicide Squad sequel
Last week news emerged confirming that Will Smith would not be reprising his role as Deadshot in James Gunn’s upcoming DCEU sequel The Suicide Squad, and now THR is reporting that Idris Elba (The Dark Tower, Hobbs & Shaw) has entered into talks with Warner Bros. to replace him.

According to the report, James Gunn met with the Thor actor this past Friday to discuss the role and it has been suggested that Elba is the writer/director’s first and only choice to fill Smith’s shoes.
After receiving several drafts of the script from Gunn, Warner Bros. is eager to push on and secure a solid cast before pre-production can begin. Smith was forced to vacate the role last week following a scheduling clash but parted ways with Warner Bros. amicably. Thankfully, Margot Robbie has been confirmed as returning to the role of Harley Quinn, one of the few standout performances of David Ayers bold original.

Should Elbra be cast alongside her as Deadshot, we could be in for one hell of an adventure when The Suicide Squad hits our screens on August 6th. 2021.
