The galaxy far, far away has lost one of its brightest stars…
We are absolutely devastated to report the passing of a true Star Wars icon. The legendary Peter Mayhew, the man behind the mask of the mighty Wookiee Chewbacca has passed away at the age of 74. He left us on the evening of April 30, 2019, surrounded by his family at his North Texas home.
Peter was an incredible individual and a true professional and he devoted his heart and soul into breathing life into a character we all know and love. His work touched the hearts of each and every one of us and the Star Wars universe has lost one of its brightest stars.

Peter’s family have issued a statement which you can read below:

The entire team at The Future of the Force wish to pass on our sincerest condolences to Peter’s family and friends. The Force will always be with you. Always.
Thank you for bringing Chewbacca into our lives. The Wookiee will roar forever.
