The former Twilight heartthrob is in advanced negotiations to don the Batsuit in Matt Reeves’ Batman Reboot
After months of speculation, Robert Pattinson appears to have landed the role as The Dark Knight in Matt Reeves’ The Batman.
According to sources close to Variety, Pattinson is currently in advanced talks to take over the role of Batman in The Batman. There is no word yet on when the official announcement will be made, but reports suggest that the negotiations are in an advanced stage.
Despite the deal being close to finalisation, Deadline has released a conflicting report which suggests the deal is not as close as previously reported. The report indicates that the casting process has refined the list of candidates down to Pattinson and Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: Dark Phoenix/Jack The Giant Slayer). However, the report goes on to say that Pattinson is indeed the frontrunner for the role.
As for The Batman, Matt Reeves is currently involved in last-minute adjustments to the screenplay before cameras roll this summer. Ben Affleck was previously attached to direct and star in the project, however, with the actor falling out of love with the role and his efforts in Justice League coming under scrutiny he decided to end his tenure as the Bat and retire the cape and cowl.

His departure from the role has afforded Reeves a clean slate in which to build his vision of our beloved Caped Crusader. The casting of a younger Dark Knight allows Warner Bros. to build a solid foundation for a durable franchise and ensure Batman will remain on our screens for many years to come.
I for one, support Matt Reeves in his quest to deliver the perfect take on the Batman property. His masterwork on the previous instalments of the Planet of the Apes franchise has made him the perfect candidate to deliver a solid and robust take on the character. And with Pattinson delivering a bounty of solid arthouse performances of late, his casting may well be another masterstroke from Reeves.
The Batman is scheduled to be released on June 25th, 2021.
