Sigourney Weaver Confirms Her Involvement in Ghostbusters 3

The Hollywood legend will reportedly return for Jason Reitman’s highly anticipated sequel alongside Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd

According to a new report from Parade, Ghostbusters legend Sigourney Weaver has confirmed she will be reprising her role as Dana Barrett for director Jason Reitman’s currently untitled sequel and indicated that original stars Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd will be joining her.

Weaver has been quoted as saying “It’s going to be crazy working with the guys again!”, however, she refused to go further into character or plot details.

The new film will reportedly revolve around a family who moves back home to a small town. While there, they begin to learn more about who they are and the secrets of the town itself. The movie counts Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), McKenna Grace (Captain Marvel), and Carrie Coon (Avengers: Infinity War) among its confirmed cast members.

Dan Aykroyd co-wrote the original Ghostbusters with alongside the late, great Harold Ramis and has been eager to get the ball rolling on a legitimate sequel for many years, while Bill Murray has been very outspoken over his reluctance to return to the franchise. His position appears to have cooled in recent months after citing Sony’s changes in leadership over the years as being the source of his hesitancy but confirmed that he would be open to being involved in Reitman’s sequel should the opportunity arise.

Sadly, there is no mention of Ernie Hudson in Parade’s report. The actor famously portrayed Ghostbuster Winston Zeddemore in the original movies and like Aykroyd, has made no secret of his desire to return to the franchise.

If this report is to be believed, it would appear the long-suffering Ghostbusters fans will finally be rewarded with the sequel they deserve. Should Jason Reitman pull off the impossible and reunite the entire original cast minus Harold Ramis, that would represent a significant achievement. Rick Moranis has been in self-imposed exile for a number of years and his exclusion is to be expected, but with Aykroyd, Murray, Hudson and Weaver all returning for a stellar sequel we can all dare to dream of a legitimate sequel over thirty years in the making.

Until then, Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters sequel is set for a July 10th, 2020 release.
