Batman’s Butler Embraces his Inner Super Spy in the Official Trailer for DC’s Pennyworth
With Fox’s Gotham sadly coming to an end, fans of the DC Universe have been asking what’s next for the team behind the series. Rumours emerged of a potential new series revealing the origins of Bruce Wayne’s butler Alfred which was met with a less than inspired response, but with the series given the green light and set images hinting at what we can expect to see from the show, opinions began to change.
Now Epix has unveiled a suitably cool official trailer for Pennyworth, the upcoming 10-episode series starring Jack Bannon as a young incarnation of Bruce Wayne’s iconic butler Alfred Pennyworth. As an ex-Special Air Service operative, the new series finds Alfred uniting with Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge) to establish a security firm in London during the 1960s. While Alfred’s focus is keeping his clients safe, new villains who introduce nightmares onto the cracked and cobbled streets of London have other plans. Check out the trailer below:
Starring alongside Bannon in Pennyworth is Ben Aldridge as Thomas Wayne, Dorothy Atkinson as Mrs Pennyworth, Hainsley Lloyd Bennett as Deon ‘Bazza’ Bashford, Emma Corrin as Esmé, Paloma Faith as Bet Sykes, Jason Flemyng as Lord Harwood, and Ryan Fletcher as Wallace ‘Dave Boy’ MacDougal.
This new series looks awesome. Alfred’s origins have always been a bit of a mystery, a secret the showrunner’s for Gotham was eager to touch upon during its run. Pennyworth appears to be taking that a step further with what looks to be a rollercoaster James Bond-inspired adventure which provides the building blocks for the infrastructure of the Batman legacy.
Bring it on. I cannot wait for this one!
Pennyworth is set to make its Epix debut on July 29th, 2019
