Star Wars | The Must-Read Books Before Watching 'The Rise of Skywalker'

Annlyel reveals the best literature titles to read ahead of the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is the event of the year and it is fast approaching. Lucasfilm is dropping a slew of books and comics to get us buttered up before the film arrives in theaters this December and as a Star Wars fan, I couldn’t be happier. Books not only can be a fascinating window into a character’s overall storyline but can provide tantalizing clues to what’s ahead in a film. And I have a feeling a lot of these clues will be dispersed throughout these various stories Lucasfilm is releasing.

During San Diego Comic-Con Lucasfilm released more stories that we will be able to enjoy in the near future and I feel these are the books that are must-reads before the big event we’re all waiting for; The Rise of Skywalker.

The Star Wars: Allegiance Comics

Four comics to read if you’re super excited to reunite with the major characters of this story is the Star Wars: Allegiance comic series. Featuring heroes Rey, Finn, Poe, General Leia Organa, Rose, C-3PO, R2-D2, and a new Mon Calamari rebel leader along with villains Kylo Ren and General Hux this four-part series will surely be a blast to occupy oneself with.

The Rise of Kylo Ren

If you’re a fan of the Knights of Ren you will be patiently but eagerly awaiting this four-part comic series featuring Kylo Ren and his highly-anticipated, long-awaited gang of baddies.

The Star Wars: Age of Resistance Comic Series

If you’re not aware there’s a comic miniseries that has already begun featuring the major characters of the Sequel Trilogy then I’m thrilled to let you know the good news. The first one that was released on July 10 featured Captain Phasma and it was yet another fascinating look into the captain’s brutality. While she may not be alive to play a role in The Rise of Skywalker it doesn’t make this comic no less fun (or interesting) to read.

But that’s not where it ends. This comic will also focus on your other favorite Sequel Trilogy characters like Finn, Poe Dameron and Rey, Vice Admiral Holdo and Maz Kanata, Rose, Hux, and Snoke, and last but definitely not least Kylo Ren. Each entry is certain to provide interesting layers to these characters that will not only increase your knowledge of these particular heroes and villains but could also help shine a light on certain decisions these characters will make in The Rise of Skywalker.

Resistance Reborn

Like Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel, Resistance Reborn is a prequel to the big cinematic event it’s setting us up for–in this case that would be Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker–meaning we will surely have a lot of information filled in for us before the Skywalker saga finale. Especially since The Rise of Skywalker takes place a year after The Last Jedi the dynamic between heroes Rey, Finn, Poe, and General Organa will definitely be different and Resistance Reborn will undoubtedly warm us up for those relationships before they play out on the big screen.

There are many, many other fascinating and fun Star Wars books coming your way this fall to enjoy whether you’re a child, teen, or an adult but if you’re looking for potential clues pertaining to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, yeah, these are the books you are looking for.

(And don’t worry, this isn’t a Jedi mind trick.) 🙂
