Megan explores where to find the power of the Force at Disney’s ultimate fan experience
Ok everyone, it’s officially August and you know what that means, we’re just over one year away from Star Wars Celebration Anaheim! Yay! I can’t wait to meet as many of you there as possible! In the meantime, we have Star Wars at Disney’s own traditional convention, known as D23, hosted at the Anaheim Convention Center happening at the end of the month! It’s so exciting! While I’m sadly not going despite it practically being in my backyard, here are just a few of the things we can expect at the event.
1.) Starting off day one, Friday, August 23 from 12:30-1:30 pm in the D23 Expo Arena, Star Wars fans will be treated to a panel all about the music and sounds heard in Galaxy’s Edge both in Disneyland and Disneyworld.
2.) Shortly thereafter, at 2 pm on stage 28, Director Ben Snow, Senior Experience Designer Jose Perez III, and Lucasfilm Story Group Creative Executive Matt Martin will preview a sneak peek from Episode II of the virtual reality series Vader Immortal. For Star Wars gaming fans, this panel is surely one not to be missed.
3.) Then following that at 3:30 pm in Hall D23, there will be an hour and a half long panel simply called Disney+ Showcase. It will likely be here where Star Wars fans will get more information about shows such as The Mandalorian, Clone Wars, and more. If this is anything like the Marvel panel at the recent San Diego Comic-Con, then for those unable to attend in person, keep your mobile devices close as this will surely not be a panel to miss.
4.) While on Saturday, August 24, there are no specific Star Wars programming/panels, from 1:30-2:30 pm on Stage 28, there will be a panel that is currently titled Secret Walt Disney Company Project. While it is unlikely this will be related to Star Wars, there is always that chance being as Star Wars is part of Disney. Interestingly, the real title of this panel will be announced two days prior (on August 22) to its presentation rather than during the opening ceremony.
5.) Then on the final day Sunday, August 25, there will be one final Star Wars related panel from 2-3pm on Stage 28 called Inspiring Woman Behind Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge which will likely be dedicated to inspiring young women and talking about the women who helped to bring the music and ambient sounds to life in Disney’s Galaxy’s Edge.
Essentially, while there will not be much in the way of Star Wars related panels, there will still be plenty to do in Lucasfilm’s own pavilion on the show floor. In this area, fans will not be able to see an incredible showcase the evolution of stormtroopers throughout the Star Wars franchise, take pictures in front of actual screen worn costumes throughout the series. There will also be a place for Jedi Padawans to watch Galaxy of Adventures video shorts and enjoy a few other interactive activities.
Despite the lack of Star Wars specific panels, especially on Saturday and Sunday, there will still be enough to do and have fun with during this year’s D23 Expo. While there, please use #FOTFD23 and share with us your experience, not just all things Star Wars, but Disney as well. We can’t wait to see them!
