By the power of Grayskull! Kevin Smith to helm a new anime series focussing on the climactic battle between He-Man and Skeletor
By the Power of Grayskull!!
Okay, this is a news piece I did not see coming so you’ll have to forgive my excitement! Netflix has announced plans for an all-new anime series based on Mattel’s iconic series Masters of the Universe helmed by none other than Kevin Smith. I’ll let that sink in for a second! The series, named Masters of the Universe: Revelation is expected to complete the original eighties adventures of He-Man and will reveal his climactic duel with his arch-nemesis Skeletor.
The official line is:
Kevin Smith will serve as the executive producer and showrunner of Masters of the Universe: Revelation, a limited series which focuses on the unresolved storylines of the classic series, picking up many of the characters’ journeys where they left off decades ago.
Netflix announced the news via Twitter and revealed what we can all look forward to from the limited series:

Kevin Smith added his excitement:
“I’m Eternia-ly grateful to Mattel TV and Netflix for entrusting me with not only the secrets of Grayskull, but also their entire Universe,” said Smith. “In Revelation, we pick up right where the classic era left off to tell an epic tale of what may be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor! Brought to life with the most metal character designs Powerhouse Animation can contain in the frame, this is the Masters of the Universe story you always wanted to see as a kid!”
Okay, I am officially beside myself with this news. Being an eighties brat, I loved He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and the thought of returning to Eternia and re-joining the fight against Skeletor is a dream come true. For me, Kevin Smith is the perfect choice to bring He-Man back to our screens and Netflix is undoubtedly the place to be for this type of nostalgia-based content.
With She-Ra already enjoying a long-overdue return to our screens and with talk of a Masters of the Universe movie doing the rounds, the timing for this new series couldn’t be better. And with the promise of fulfilling an unresolved storyline from the original series, I am totally on board for this series.
I will be ready with a sword in hand to yell “By the power of Grayskull” at the top of my lungs when this series hits our screens.
