The Arrowverse incorporates Smallville into the events of the biggest CW crossover ever attempted
The upcoming Arrowverse crossover event, “Crisis on Infinite Earths” promises to be the biggest CW collaboration of all time. Not only will our current crop of Arrowverse heroes be teaming up with Black Lightning for the very first time, but in recent months the CW has confirmed that Brandon Routh will be reprising his role as Superman, legendary Robin actor Burt Ward will be reprising his role as Dick Grayson and Batman: The Animated Series legend Kevin Conroy will be slipping into the Bruce Wayne costume for the very first time.
Alongside Routh, current Arrowverse Superman Tyler Hoechlin will also be slipping into the famous red and blue suit giving us two incarnations of the Man of Steel to contend with. Ordinarily, one Man of Steel would be enough to save the day and restore balance to the Multiverse, but the news is emerging that Smallville legend, Tom Welling will also be slipping back into his incarnation of Clark Kent ready to do battle against the forces of evil.
Three incarnations of Superman I hear you cry! … Pinch yourself … you’re not dreaming. Additionally, the event is also expected to explore what happened to his Clark Kent in the decade since the events of Smallville.
“For eight years, Arrow has stood on the shoulders of Smallville. Simply put, there would be no Arrow, and no Arrowverse, without it,” said Arrow co-creator/executive producer Marc Guggenheim about Welling joining the party. “So when we first started talking about Crisis on Infinite Earths, our first, second and third priorities were getting Tom to reprise his iconic role as Clark Kent. To say that we’re thrilled would be a Superman-sized understatement.”
Whether Welling will get to suit up alongside his counterparts remains to be seen, however, with so many legendary characters lining up to play a part in “Crisis on Infinite Earths”, we can all look forward to a very special feast of fun when battle commences. The event will be divided up into two parts with three episodes airing in December while the remaining two will arrive in January.
