Annylel explores the potential characters in the Disney+ Marvel extravaganza LOKI
When Loki was choked to death at the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War I was brokenhearted as were many others. Loki’s story had been complex throughout the franchise as he went from being a revenge-stricken villain to becoming a mischievous occasional ally to finally and consequently becoming a hero.
A lot of people didn’t want to believe he was dead, even going as far as to theorize how he was still alive. However, after Endgame it was confirmed that he was indeed dead, but hope was restored as a mistake occurring during The Avengers’ infamous “Time Heist” allowed Loki to tear a rift in the timeline. Suddenly, Loki was brought back to life in a strange way which was confirmed as Kevin Feige announced there would be a Loki Disney+ series arriving in 2021. The series, of course, would focus on Loki’s story just after he escaped The Avengers in the Time Heist sequence, meaning other characters that were still alive at the time could easily return for a small role. Here are five such characters.
1. Heimdall
Heimdall was another fan-favorite who unfortunately had little screen time in Infinity War as Thanos killed him out of the equation less than ten minutes into the movie. While he clearly wouldn’t and shouldn’t have a large role it would be nice to see him again.
2. Frigga
As you may remember, Loki was very stuck in his villainous ways until his beloved mother, Frigga, was killed. It was the first time that we saw true sadness from the character. It was a turning point for him and the first time in the MCU after Loki’s turn to villainy that he and Thor would team up to go fight a greater evil.
With Frigga playing such a powerful role in his story, I think it’s imperative for her to play a small role at least in Loki.
3. Lady Sif, the Goddess of War
Lady Sif hasn’t gotten nearly the attention she deserves in the MCU. Her role in Thor was slight and in Thor: The Dark World it was even slighter despite the fact that she’s literally the Goddess of War. How cool is that?!
I’ve been waiting for her to get a lead role for a while now and I think she would be a perfect co-star to Tom Hiddleston’s Loki in the series. Then she could finally get her due.
4. Thor, of course
You never know what could transpire in this Disney+ series. We could very well see Chris Hemsworth sporting another horrid blond wig as he plays 2012 Thor in the series. And it makes sense too. If Loki got away wouldn’t he go after him? The thought is definitely exciting.
5. And last but definitely not least, Thanos
Before Thanos arrived at the forefront of the story in Infinity War he was sitting in the shadows orchestrating the galaxy’s eventual demise through the willingness of his followers and of course Loki was one such follower.
With Loki’s defeat in The Avengers, it makes a lot of sense that Loki may return to Thanos to apologize or to announce that his plan for Earth’s domination did not go so well. Thanos’s role, of course, would be small so that he doesn’t overpower Loki’s story but an appearance from the ultra-awesome Marvel villain would be exciting nonetheless.
Regardless of who will star or appear alongside Loki in the series my excitement is through the roof. 2021 is going to be a great year to be a Marvel fan.
