Annlyel shares her favorite moment from George Lucas’ stellar franchise originator – Star Wars: A New Hope

A New Hope is a magical film, based on the dazzling whims of fantasy epics, soap opera-level dramas, and resembling childhood tales like The Sword in the Stone with Luke practically being Arthur and Obi-Wan Kenobi being the wizened Wizard Merlin. To say A New Hope was a groundbreaking phenomenon is an understatement. It changed the way movies would be viewed forever and has dazzled millions of viewers for decades because of its searing brilliance.

The movie is fantastic from beginning to end, delivering a powerful story that is designed to inspire Luke’s ascension from farm boy to galactic hero. He meets fascinating characters in the Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi, the cocky scoundrel Han Solo, the scoundrel’s faithful companion Chewbacca, a couple of very important droids, and a beautiful princess. What could’ve been a massive disaster turned into the exact opposite?

A New Hope is a beautiful movie, to say the least, and there are many scenes in the film that are truly mesmerizing but there’s one that stands tall above the rest and that is the final scene.

Luke has saved the day, and Obi-Wan’s teachings of the mystical power called the Force have been realized through Luke’s freakish abilities to destroy the Death Star, it’s a straight-up happy ending. And the conclusion with Luke Skywalker and Han Solo receiving medals from Princess Leia is one of the best endings to any movie ever made.

With the buoyant music composed by the legendary John Williams, this scene has brought me so much joy since I was a little girl that there’s no doubt it’s my favorite scene in the entire movie.

Next up, The Empire Strikes Back. Very exciting!
