Peter Parker’s solo MCU adventures will not be available on Disney+ anytime soon
Aside from The Mandalorian and the big screen adventures from a galaxy far, far away, Disney fans have been enjoying the glorious catalogue of Marvel Cinematic Universe movies on Disney+. From the original Iron Man all the way through to Avengers Endgame, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are well represented on Disney’s all-new streaming service.
However, one character oddly missing from the party is everyone’s friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man. That’s right, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man Far From Home are not currently available to stream on Disney Plus, and if you’ve been waiting to watch Tom Holland’s spectacular solo adventures on the platform you’re out of luck.
When asked about their omission, Disney+ head of content Ricky Strauss said: “We love our friends at Sony, but we don’t have any plans to have the live-action Spider-Man movies on Disney+. We will have all the Spider-Man animated shows that we did so they’ll be on there under the Marvel banner. But who knows what can happen in the future?”
Obviously, Spidey will be missing from Disney+ for the foreseeable future which is a slap in the face of Spidey fans everywhere. However, it shouldn’t come as any real surprise. After all, it was just a few months ago that the on/off deal between Disney and Sony to keep Spidey in the MCU fell through … only to be resurrected at the last second … the outcome being a gradual departure after completing a very lucrative trilogy. But it’s not all doom and gloom. Fans of the 90’s animated Spider-Man series can stream hours of awesomeness on Disney+ and enjoy all the Spidey vs. Venom drama their heart’s desire.
Every cloud and all that jazz.
Disney+ is currently available in the USA, Canada, and the Netherlands and will launch in the UK on March 31st 2020.
