The long-awaited trailer for Jared Leto‘s Sony Multiverse vampire flick is finally here and features a cameo from MICHAEL KEATON’s MCU Vulture
Last week, Sony Pictures teased us with the rumour that the debut trailer for its big-screen adaptation of Marvel’s Michael Morbius – The Living Vampire was due to hit the wires this week. The rumour seemed to gain traction over the weekend after a leaked image revealing Jared Leto in full costume was unleashed upon the world. Check it out below:
Well, after all the drama and frolics, the teaser trailer has indeed been unleashed upon the world and gives us a taste of the bloodsucking vampire mayhem that awaits us this July. Enjoy:
Now, for those of you wondering what all the fuss is about, Michael Morbius was first introduced in the classic Amazing Spider-Man comic series in 1971 and, over the course of time, Morbius has become one of Spidey’s more beloved and robust of villains. Despite his initial status as one of Spider-Man’s horror-based rogues, he has since gone on to become a brooding and gritty antihero in his own right, this despite his horrific penchant for drinking human plasma.
Here’s the official synopsis:
In Morbius, biochemist Michael Morbius tries to cure himself of a rare blood disease, but he inadvertently infects himself with a form of vampirism instead, finding himself both as a vampire and being chased by the authorities and his former ally.
One thing that will set tongues wagging is the inclusion of Michael Keaton’s Adrian Toomes a.k.a Vulture. Toomes was last seen in the MCU/Sony collaboration Spider-Man Homecoming which all but confirms that Morbius is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans had feared that the movie would be destined to be confined to the same adjunct universe that Venom was, however, with the red tape now cut and the shared universe rescued from the brink of collapse it seems that the adjunct universe is far less adjunct than we first thought.
Does this mean Venom is now free to swing his way into the MCU? Only time will tell.
Sony’s big-screen adaptation stars Jared Leto as Dr. Michael Morbius along with Adria Arjona as Morbius’s fiancee Martine Bancroft. Jared Harris will portray Morbius’s mentor, Tyrese Gibson makes the shift from the Fast & Furious franchise to become Simon Stroud “an FBI agent trying to hunt down the living vampire,” and former Doctor Who star Matt Smith will serve as the film’s villain, Loxias Crown.
Daniel Espinosa is directing Morbius from a screenplay written by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, and Lucas Foster will serve as producers, with Palak Patel overseeing the project for the Sony Pictures. Composer Jon Ekstrand is attached to compose the score for Morbius after doing the same for Espinosa’s previous films
Morbius is confirmed for release on July 31st, 2020.
