The Adventures of Zorii Bliss and Babu Frik on Disney Plus could build upon a noteworthy debut in The Rise Of Skywalker
I don’t know about you, but of all the new characters introduced in Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker the mysterious Zorii Bliss and her hilarious droidsmith companion Babu Frik really resonated with me. You don’t need me to tell how adorable Babu is, his charm and lovable personality do the talking for him, but his comedic personality and witty “hey hey” catchphrase had me in stitches at times. However, Zorii Bliss is a different beast entirely.
Initially, her involvement in the story seemed superfluous, merely shoehorned in to add a little extra depth to Poe Dameron’s backstory, however, after having time to digest the events of The Rise Of Skywalker, I found myself drawn to her charisma. Perhaps it is my love of Boba Fett and the allure of a masked rogue making her way through the universe and battling it out with dregs and criminals, but the more I reflect on her character the more I yearn to see more.
Sadly, the finale of The Rise of Skywalker left us with more questions than answers, and the resolution, although suitable for the saga hasn’t extinguished my insatiable thirst for more. And then it struck me. Now that the galaxy is liberated from the threat of the Final Order and their icy home on Kijimi has been all but obliterated, what is next for Babu and Zorii? Are they destined to slip between the hyperspace lanes and startup a lucrative spice trade? Is Babu set to become the Resistance’s top droidsmith? Or are there far more daring escapades on the horizon? Personally, I am inclined to believe the latter, and that is a story I’d love to see brought to life!
Now, with the monumental success of The Mandalorian taken into consideration, Disney Plus has proven itself to be the perfect platform for these types of adventures and with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Cassian Andor set to follow suit and build upon their previous appearances, could Zorii Bliss be next? I certainly hope so. I believe there is ample room in the Star Wars universe for a series similar in tone to The Mandalorian featuring the adventures of Zorii and Babu, and if Jon Favreau’s stellar series has proven anything, its that the fanbase would love to see more tales from the criminal underworld.
Sadly, as of press time, this is nothing more than a pipe dream but I truly believe there is a place for Zorii and Babu in the Star Wars universe post The Rise Of Skywalker. Their involvement in the Skywalker finale aside, J.J Abrams and Chris Terrio appear to have gone above and beyond to install a genuine depth to these characters and me, for one would love to see more. If not a Disney Plus series, I’d be fine with a literary adventure or two, but either way, I need more Zorii and Babu in my life! I need to learn more about the secrets of the Kijimi spice runners. I need a few droids tampered with resulting in hilarious consequences. Sadly, only Lucasfilm has the power to make this a reality.
Come on Lucasfilm. You have the Force … it’s time to use it!
What do you guys think? Am I alone in this or is there room in the galaxy far, far away for more adventures alongside these two? Sound off in the comments section.
