Disney CEO, Bob Iger has announced that The Mandalorian will return for Season 2 in October.
The Mandalorian. The first-ever live-action Star Wars series has become the most-watched streaming series in history and has helped Disney Plus to a whopping 26.5 million subscriptions. And all that before the service has even launched in the UK and Europe. So, it’s no wonder that the house of mouse had greenlit a second season long before the very first episodes were broadcast. Series creator Jon Favreau recently confirmed that the series will return in the fall of 2020, but during the recent first-quarter earnings call, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that The Mandalorian‘s hotly-anticipated second season will start on Disney+ this October.
Additionally, Iger also confirmed that The Mandalorian will likely run for more than two seasons and even teased a likely spin-off or two, saying there’s “the possibility of infusing [The Mandalorian] with more characters and taking those characters in their own direction in terms of series.”
How amazing is this? The Mandalorian is heading back to our screens this October AND there are potential spin-off’s in the pipeline! HOLY FORCE. Dare we dream of a CARA DUNE series? Could we see The Adventures of Baby Yoda? (or The Child as NOBODY calls him). Either way, this all sounds pretty damn exciting, and I am all for it.
For me, The Mandalorian is the definitive Star Wars series. A project that took the essence of the Original Trilogy and amalgamated it with the brilliance of The Clone Wars and delivered lightning in a bottle. Whether that success can transfer to another series will purely depend on the quality of its writers and its production staff. But given the diverse range of fantastic guest directors and visionaries – the talent pool at Lucasfilm is brimming with quality.
Mark the date in your calendars. The Mandalorian will return this October!
