Isolation Entertainment - V (The Mini-Series)

Anthony is on hand with his recommendation of what to watch whilst in self-quarantine.

To help beat the coronavirus blues, for the foreseeable future, members of team Future of the Force will be on hand with our recommendations of awesome entertainment to check out whilst in self-quarantine. Whether its the best TV shows, ultimate movie marathons or lesser-known gems, we’ll be here to keep you entertained during this difficult time.

Who remembers V? Yes, the 1983 TV show about an invading force of lizard aliens trying to gain control of Earth. The series is dated, but it still retains that 80s charm. It doesn’t matter that the alien prosthetics look ropey and the SFX shakey, the excellence and ambition of the show should not be underestimated. There’s no disputing the allegory to Nazi Germany – it’s a fable about it-can-happen-here fascism. Sadly, it unmasks the political dangers the world still faces today. V proved that sci-fi on television could be lavish and intelligent. It’s no surprise it was named one of the ten best miniseries on DVD. My advice is to hunker down under the duvet and enjoy this forgotten gem.

Be safe, guys and be kind to one another.

Let us know if you have any suggestions of great movies or TV shows our readers should check out and we’ll feature and share them with the FOTF community.

Stay safe.

  1. “V” was a really-good mini-series. It moved fast, always something happening.

Another good mini-series (less than 15 episodes if memory is correct) was: THE LOST ROOM (starring Peter Kraus) This was around 2007? ..2008?. While staying in a Motel, a father’s daughter steps into another room and disappears to…..who knows? It gets stranger. There are these things called “Objects”. Ordinary-looking, everyday things like:
    a Comb
    the Coat
    the Flask
    the Pen
    the glass eye
a pair of scissors. and more. Ordinary things, but with unusual and fantastic powers!
Peter has the Master-object “the Key”, but 2 or 3 other competing groups also want the objects. Will Peter ever find his daughter and get her back? Watch this. It isnt too long, but long enough for several interesting moments. Great suspense. Amazon.com should have this on DVD.
