The ‘Star Wars’ Quotes That Inspire Me

Annlyel shares her favorite insirational quotes from a galaxy far, far away….

Star Wars; it’s more than just a franchise. It’s a story filled with life lessons that we can all discover and interpret in our own ways. It’s also the driving force of my love for movies and writing. As a child, I would be transported to a galaxy far, far away where there were fallen heroes, cunning and evil villains, a beautiful queen and an inspiring princess, wise elders filled with the knowledge to help the heroes, a lovable scoundrel and a heroic young man that you can’t help rooting for.

Leia and Han - Star Wars Return of the Jedi

As an adult, the story still manages to inspire me and wow me in ways I often find, well, surprising. In the newer stories, the lines have become a bit blurred between dark and light but there is still a clear distinction between good and evil. Knowing that there is good and bad in all of us and watching our favorite characters overcome the obstacles that bar their way to their individual destinies is nothing short of beautiful.

Today, I’m sharing five quotes that have managed to not only steer the heroes in the right direction but have managed to inspire me for my own personal life. So, here goes nothing.

Being a 'Star Wars' Fan: A Quick Self-Analysis

“Be brave. And don’t look back. Don’t look back.” – Shmi Skywalker

We’ve all made mistakes but we must choose whether to harp on our failures or move on. Shmi Skywalker tells Anakin forthrightly to not look back, to go on and take his first steps into a larger world. It’s a powerful statement that would be a defining moment for Anakin Skywalker (considering that he didn’t heed her advice…and we know how that turned out) and an inspiring message to me.

A Sequel Trilogy Question | Are the Jedi To Blame?

“Your focus determines your reality.” – Qui-Gon Jinn

Qui-Gon Jinn is one of my favorite Jedi of all time and this quote, in a nutshell, explains why. He may not be the most powerful but he is filled with wisdom often unparalleled in the franchise and, we must not forget, he is the first Jedi to learn how to return as a ghost to the living world. That’s pretty awesome.

This quote is so powerful and it reminds me every day to sharpen my focus on my goals.

“Remember, the Force will be with you, always.” – Obi-Wan Kenobi

Yeah, the Force may be a fictional power that only exists in a galaxy far far away but it’s very easy to think of the Force as simply our own inner power for our everyday lives. And so, it’s nice to have this quote in my head when I’m preparing for a daunting task or just need a quick pick-me-up quote to make my day.

Star Wars | The Defining Moments: Luke Skywalker

“Your eyes can deceive you; don’t trust them.” – Obi-Wan Kenobi

Have you heard the expression “eyes bigger than your stomach”? How many of us have fallen victim to seeing something visually delectable, started eating it knowing we aren’t that hungry, and were left feeling overstuffed and sometimes, even, a bit queasy? There are many moments in life when something looks great, whether that’s food or a shining opportunity that we may want to jump at, but it’s truthfully not a good decision to take a bite into that apple. Here, this quote reminds us to trust our guts, sometimes literally, in making a decision and often times your gut is never wrong.

“Try not. Do or do not. There is no try.”

This is hands down the quote that inspires me the most. Yoda tells Luke to commit wholeheartedly to whatever he sets his mind on and that is what I strive to do every day. Beyond the explosively riveting action scenes, the dazzling lightsaber duels, the gripping love stories and tales of destiny, Star Wars is a story that inspires and will continue to inspire generations of fans, young and old.
