Are the Episodic Series the Future of 'Star Wars'?

Annlyel shares her excitement for the triumphant return of The Mandalorian in Season 2

Oh my goodness, with every month that passes we’re getting closer and closer to seeing the greatest Star Wars duo since Han and Chewbacca back on our small screens journeying across the galaxy, confronting new and fantastic people, and seeing new worlds. Of course, that duo belongs to Cara Dune and Greef Carga.

Ha! Just kidding. We all know the duo I’m talking about is Mando and his uber-cute companion, The Child or as we all know him, at least for right now, Baby Yoda.

When last we saw them they were flying off on a mission procured by The Armorer herself. The Child will need to find his people out there in the galaxy somewhere and Mando has been tasked with finding it. Um…awesome! This second season has so many chances to be one of the greatest things we’ve ever seen in the Star Wars franchise and I’m here for every bit of it but of course, there are five things I’m particularly excited to see so, with no further delay, here they are.

Star Wars on Disney+ | Everything You Need To Know

1. More Baby Yoda

The Child was a surprise addition to The Mandalorian that no one saw coming and he collectively melted our hearts with his expressive eyes, his soft coos, and his burgeoning skill with the Force. Throughout the first season, we learned that The Child is already very powerful. We saw him lift a massive Mud Horn to save Mando’s life in Chapter 2. In Chapter 7 we saw him nearly choke the life out of Cara Dune while managing to heal and save Greef Karga’s life later in the very same episode. And who can forget when he used the Force to block the roaring wave of flame from killing his friends in Chapter 8, once again highlighting how powerful the little bugger can be.

There has already been some talk that that’s not the last of The Child’s powers that we will see and I’m really excited to see what else he can do. Besides, we need more Baby Yoda moments worth converting into funny memes. 😂

2. Discovering How Moff Gideon Got the Darksaber

When Moff Gideon climbed out of his crashed TIE Fighter with his Darksaber in hand my brain practically exploded. The excitement I felt, the confirmation that he was more than just a one-episode villainous wonder, there was so much going through my mind. And then it hit me. How did he acquire the Darksaber?

Moff Gideon and The Darksaber

The last person to have had it was Bo-Katan Kryze in the fourth season of Star Wars: Rebels which was given to her by Sabine Wren. What happened in that period where she would end up losing it and will we get a chance to see him take it in an epic flashback sequence? It’s already been confirmed that actress Katee Sackhoff will reprise her role as Bo-Katan Kryze in live-action for The Mandalorian. That could be for many reasons but it also could very well be for the moment we learn how skilled Moff Gideon is in combat as he defeats her and takes the Darksaber as his own. I would love for this epic vision in my head to become reality, for that alone would make the second season better than the first season instantly.

3. Boba Fett!

Come on! Boba Fett searching for The Mandalorian? What type of beautiful dream is this? The last time we saw Boba Fett he was being swallowed by the Sarlacc. To know that he very well may have survived is not only one of the coolest thoughts in my mind but it makes perfect sense too. If Darth Maul could survive being cut in half and falling into a chute on Naboo then there’s a good chance you can survive being eaten by a massive sandpit monster if you’re a bounty hunter with plenty of gadgets.

The thought of those visuals; Mando versus Boba Fett, is earth-shattering and I truly hope it becomes a reality.

4. Ahsoka’s Live-Action Debut

If you had told me a couple of years ago that Ahsoka Tano would become my favorite Star Wars heroine I would’ve kind of believed you but not fully. That, however, was realized after watching The Clone Wars where we got eight straight episodes of Ahsoka being awesome. She’s so lovable for so many different reasons. She’s a really cool alien, she has fantastic outfits, she has two lightsabers and has had wielded three different lightsaber colors (green, blue, and white), and her story has been nothing short of entertaining and powerful.

With Rosario Dawson set to bring her to life, Ahsoka Tano standing alongside The Mandalorian sounds like something out of a really fantastic dream and yet it will soon be a reality. Unless, of course, we first get a super awesome duel between Ahsoka and Mando. Now, that just makes things even better. Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have a lot of cool ideas up their sleeves and I’m ready for all of them.

5. The Yoda World

Yoda‘s species just may be the most mysterious in the galaxy. They are not often seen and the ones we have seen have all had the Force. They are exceptionally powerful beings who often join the Light but is there a chance there are some who turn to the dark side? Or, if Moff Gideon is actually an agent of the dark side, what if he’s trying to obtain The Child to convert the first of its kind to the darkness? What would that look like and how powerful could one of Yoda’s species become if they did dabble on the dark side of the spectrum? Ooh, the thought is terrifying.

Mando’s mission is to find The Child’s home but what does that look like? Where can it be? And will we see hundreds of Yoda’s people in a single frame for the first time ever?! Oh, the thought is astonishing and if it does become a reality I’m going to be overjoyed.

Final Thoughts:

The Mandalorian returns to Disney+ this October and as we get closer and closer to the release date it won’t be long now before we see the trailer in which case the internet will break if Ahsoka or Boba Fett makes an appearance in it. Until then, I can only ride this wave of my excitement and what a wave it’s becoming!
