The Lion director aggressively pursued the role and is now expected to direct Jared Leto’s exploits on the grid
Greetings programs. The Grid has been reconfigured and the Master Control Program is back online! News is hitting the wires that the long-gestating sequel to Tron Legacy is finally nearing the starting grid.
We recently brought you rumors that suggested that Jared Leto had been tapped to lead the cast for an all-new adventure on the grid, and today we are delighted to confirm this story. Deadline is reporting that Garth Davis (Lion) has been tapped to direct the feature and Jared Leto is indeed attached to star. Though not renowned for big-budget blockbusters, Davis has a great pedigree and according to reports, he aggressively pursued the job, with his enthusiasm eventually winning over Disney execs.
As well as starring in the movie, Leto has signed on as a producer alongside Justin Springer and Emma Ludbrook.
Sadly, no plot details have been confirmed, nor has the flick been given an official green light to proceed, however, this news only strengthens Tron‘s eventual return to the big screen and symbolizes that it will be sooner rather than later that we once again step foot onto the grid.

The last film, ‘Tron: Legacy‘ hit screens ten years ago this Christmas and plans have been made, canceled, remade, and canceled again over the past decade. The new movie is expected to be titled ‘Tron: Ascension‘ and recently it was reported that it had been earmarked to expand upon the franchise with Jared Leto playing a new character called Ares. Leto almost had a cameo in ‘Tron: Legacy‘, featuring at the End Of Line club until the idea fell by the wayside.
