The Long Halloween joins a bumper year of Bat-action alongside Soul of the Dragon and The Batman
An animated adaptation of Batman: The Long Halloween has been confirmed at the end of the Superman: Man of Tomorrow panel at DC FanDome for a 2021 release. The film will be released in 2 parts (similar to how the animated adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns was done in 2012 and 2013.
For anybody not familiar with the story, The Long Halloween was originally released between 1996 and 1997 as a 13 issue series. It was written by Jeph Loeb and illustrated by Tim Sale. The story takes place during Batman’s early days and weaves the tale of a mysterious killer named Holiday because he only murders on holidays.
The Long Halloween was the basis of some elements of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight film, and some of the ideas from the story were used in the Gotham television series. With this announcement, it seems like 2021 will be quite the active year for the Batman character. In addition to this newly announced release, 2021 will also see the release of another animated Batman movie, Soul of the Dragon, and 2021 might be the year that the Matt Reeves-directed film, The Batman, will hit theaters.
The Long Halloween is one of the best Batman story arcs out there ever written so the creators will certainly have their work cut out for them.
