Flash Gordon 003

John Walsh invites us to return to Mongo for an exploration of the story behind the classic movie

“Gordon’s alive!”

Mike Hodges’ cult classic Flash Gordon celebrates its 40th anniversary this year and we’re loving every second of it. From its mesmerizing soundtrack to the campy costumes and cheesy one-liners, the movie has become a cult classic in its own right and is easily one of the most watchable sci-fi classics of all-time.

Flash Gordon 001

To commemorate this landmark event,  we have been fully immersing ourselves in the recently released and newly restored 4K UHD Blu-Ray edition of the film and have been playing the soundtrack on repeat (as you do!) but now, John Walsh is about to take us back to Mongo for an exploration of how the movie made it to the screen in Flash Gordon: The Official Story Of The Film from Titan Books.

Flash Gordon The Official Story Of The Film

This wonderful volume promises to be one of the must-have titles of the year and will peel back the layers of the movie and delve into its creation in greater detail than anything attempted before. Written by the legendary John Walsh (who we had the pleasure of interviewing about his previous release Harryhausen: The Lost Movies), the book will feature brand new interviews with the cast and crew, including stars Sam Jones and Brian Blessed. And if that isn’t enough to have you slipping into your Ming the Merciless costume with glee, the book will also feature never-before-seen concept artwork and previously unreleased photography from the movie.

This book is an absolute treasure trove of Flash Gordon awesomeness making it a must-have title on every fan’s wish list – and being forwarded by Mike Hodges himself, this first-of-its-kind coffee table book is the perfect way to celebrate this iconic movie’s legacy.

The book is set to be published by Titan Books and is scheduled to hit the shelves on October 27.
